“Comfortable beds here!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 27, 2013 via mobile

The Red Lion chain is our choice if it's available where we travel. We stayed two nights at the Port Angeles location during our 2.5 week trek across the Olympic Peninsula. The best thing about Red Lions are the beds, hands down the most comfortable in the price range. The ac was quiet; there's plenty of hot water for sore muscles; it's clean. And of course location location location. Services are not the best. I would not recommend the breakfast or coffee under any circumstances and I don't consider myself picky. Plan to eat at nearby restaurants. There was a little mixup with the front desk over an extra night so we took our cue to move on. Staff are generally pleasant. There is no elevator or assistance with bags. Air quality in room isn't so good. If you sleep late, be prepared for ship horns blowing around 8am.

The Red Lion in Port Angeles is within a few blocks to the Victoria Ferry terminal. As a guest of this property you can park your car in the Red Lion lot for extra nights while visiting Victoria. The cost for the extra parking nights is only $5 per night. Other than the proximity to the Ferry, there is nothing special about this hotel. No breakfast is provided, coffee/tea is always available in the lobby, no elevator, free newspapers in the lobby, pool, half of the rooms have a view of the water while the other half have a view of the parking lot and the hotel is 3 stories high. Our room was clean with a refrigerator and coffee maker. There was an ice maker down the hall, Wi-Fi and TV. The room and furniture were somewhat worn. Our impression was that it was time for the Red Lion owners to refurbish the room we stayed in. There is a restaurant connected to the hotel for meals at an extra cost. There are many businesses and restaurants near by ... some are within walking distance. Close to the Olympic National Park Visitor's Center as well as Hurricane Ridge Visitor's Center. If you have a few extra hours, we recommend you visiting Hurricane Ridge.

We stayed here three nights as part of a group for a vintage car tour. Our room was clean and comfortable and the food service was excellent for our group of some 120 people.

It is close to the Coho ferry terminal (within easy walking distance if you travel from Victoria BC without your car) and there are lots of places to eat nearby.

You do need to be prepared to clean the seagull droppings from your car, though.

Room Tip: You can choose between one that faces the ocean or one that faces the parking lot.

We happened to be here on the 4th, with kids and a HUGE dog. We had water view rooms, and discovered that there were fireworks right outside. What a great view!!! We not only saw the Port Angeles fireworks, but other spots around the water. It was perfect.
We made reservations at the Red Lion because they claimed to be dog friendly, which they really were. For the 4th celebration an outside cook-out with hamburgers, corn on the cob, etc. was offered, and dogs were also welcome. The hotel is not fancy, but the breakfast was good and the beds were comfortable. The location is good as well, right next to the pier, and within walking distance of the ferry and a bunch of restaurants. I would recommend getting the rooms facing the water. Beautiful.

We were here over the Sequim lavender festival weekend with a side visit to the Olympics National Park. The location is fantastic, convenient to many attractions and close to some nice restaurants. Property is right at a long walk/bike path, paved along the ocean for a fantastic view to sea. It is also near the ferry terminal and the Landing.

The reason we rated this average is because of the following: We booked our nights via a third party hotel reservation site. Upon check-in we were told the nightly rate was $15 higher for one night, and $25 higher for the second night. We had to show our confirmation receipt to adjust in accordance to our rate. When we entered our hotel room, the chair/couch in the room had multiple huge dirt stains on it. We requested to move to another room, which the reception desk did, 2 rooms down,.

The room in general is very clean, with lots of room and a nice big flat screen TV. The hotel was completedly booked for the weekend, however, it is surprisingly quiet. Plenty of parking.

Rooms along the walk pathy side has private balcony with view to sea. So if that is important to you, make sure you spend the extra money to get that. This is an old property, we think with a little updating and facelift, it can be rated 5 (excellent) again!

We decided to go to Victoria, BC. We stayed here in Port Angeles. It was great. We upgraded to an ocean view room. It was definitely worth it. Close to the ferry to Victoria. They also asked why we were there and I mentioned we were on our anniversary. We stepped out for a bite to eat, came back and there was a bottle of wine in our room. Very unexpected! Will definitely come back.

Room Tip: Pay to upgrade to an ocean view room, sooooooo worth it.

We stopped in our our way to Olympic and there wasn't much to choose from, but this Red Lion looked the best. It was over $200, but it came with breakfast and we had a great view of the Strait. The rooms were clean and the beds are comfortable.
