“Great Trail”

Ocmulgee Heritage Trail
Reviewed July 10, 2017

For me, this is a highlight of downtown Macon. This trail parallels the Ocmulgee River and New Town Macon has plans to greatly expand it. Now, we just need some bars and restaurants alongside.

The Ocmulgee Heritage Trail is very nice - right along the river in Macon.

At the entrance we used we did notice several homeless people - while they did approach us - it does seem the mayor and police could better secure the area.

There is a nice Otis Redding Jr statue here.

Another downside is parking - there really is none at the Charles Jones Gateway Park entrance - just a small area to pull over - right across from the homeless people (no security for ones car)

There can also be better lighting.

So - cool park area and area to walk - but - go in a group, go in daytime, don't leave valuables in car - and good luck finding a parking spot.

Macon has potential with this - but work needs to be done.

We are new to the area and stumbled along this park. It has a nice paved walking trail along the river however it very short. It appears they are currently working on improving or expanding this park which I look forward to the completion. There were other families walking, riding bikes and rollerblading which was nice to see.

The trail is well-maintained, and short enough (3/4 mile) for young children to walk on their own. Just be sure to bring water. It's a shared (bike/walk) trail, but I didn't see any evidence of bikes when I was there.

I stopped here on my way to visit friends in Florida. It was a beautiful park and walks around the mounds were beautiful and well kept up
