macon leaders were shocked a few years back when a group of professional tour guides were given a tour of macon and they rated this old church as ther favorite stop. looks like something from the old country.

I only went in for about 10 minutes and walked around but both the inside and outside of the place are phenomenal. The beauty of the inside is every bit as good as any cathedral that I have ever been in. You can't miss the towering twin crosses from anywhere in downtown Macon.

There is no doubt that God lives in this place. The right side of the altar has a manger scene that is unbelievable -- palm trees, a running brook, birds, frogs, flowers -- it really helps to visualize the time and place of Jesus' birth. If you can go at Christmas -- DO IT. This place was renovated in 2005 and it is a treasure. This was the first place my husband (then boyfriend) took me in Macon and I was IN LOVE from the first footstep. Got some troubles weighing on you -- take it and put it on this altar. It just invites you to leave your troubles here and know you are loved. Enjoy!

I am not a member of St. Joseph's Church, but I will say that it is the most beautiful church that I have ever been in. They just spent millions to restore it over the last three years. It is breathtaking! When traveling all over Europe...none of the cathedral's were as beautiful as this church.
