We only had one night in Franz Joseph - but we thoroughly enjoyed our time here. The cottage is spacious and more than met our needs. Some lovely touches - fruit loaf and biscuity on our arrival. Lots of helpful local knowledge and the next day, a wonderful cooked breakfast. When we get back to NZ we will make a point of staying here again.

We visited during World Cup Rugby traveling and stayed two nights in the delightful cabin. The location is beautiful and convenient. Julie and Jo thought of everything for our comfort. They are knowledgeable about the area and prepared great food. While they value wonderful indoor spaces, they truly have a passion for the outdoors.

We were upgraded to the cabin which was a lovely gesture. Very spacious, clean, comfortable and magnificent views of the mountains. Our hosts were very caring, friendly and attentive. Jo and Julie were more than happy to share their knowledge about the area and environment. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay which included delicious fruit pancakes for breakfast and baked goodies in our cabin. We really felt at home and at one with the surroundings. Thank you Jo and Julie for sharing your beautiful corner of the world with us.

We stayed 2 nights at Ribbonwood Retreat while visiting franz Josef glacier and Rugby World Cup travelling. Jo, the owner, looked after us from the moment we arrived and was a wonderful host throughtout our stay - great home-cooked breakfast as well as helpful tips and advice and a really useful pack of road info when we left that helped make the journey afterwards really memorable. Very comfortable beds, lovely shower and fabulous views. Only 5 minutes into town and had the advantage that we weren't bothered by helicopters overhead which we understood town places suffer from. A great place to stay and a charming host - we fully recommend this place.

Room Tip: Whole top floor worked well for us as a family

My other half and I stayed here the night of the Royal Wedding. Jo made a special accommodation for us to watch it in the living area, and even joined us in watching the exciting events unfold.

Jo made arrangements for a helicopter flight of the glaciers, which was much appreciated.

Breakfast was excellent and we truly enjoyed our stay here, with loads of fresh homemade items.

We stayed in the Baumann Glacier room and can recommend this to others. It was nice to have a separate bathroom and separate toilet/WC, as well as dressing gowns provided for us.

Arrived very late one night after driving from Nelson with two young daughters and found Jo waiting up for us. He helped us settle in upstairs, making sure we took our shoes off, a nice take home from his time spent in Japan. We slept well, awoke none too early and had a hearty breakfast that he cooked for us; my daughters polished off 4 eggs each that morning. A nice touch was to show them his small garden outside his house and pick a few fresh strawberries which he cut up and gave them for breakfast.

I would give this place a perfect score except it is a small bed and breakfast so you have to adjust expectations from larger, fancier and pricier places. But is was great for our small family for that one night we stopped by. Thanks Jo...
