My other half and I stayed here the night of the Royal Wedding. Jo made a special accommodation for us to watch it in the living area, and even joined us in watching the exciting events unfold.

Jo made arrangements for a helicopter flight of the glaciers, which was much appreciated.

Breakfast was excellent and we truly enjoyed our stay here, with loads of fresh homemade items.

We stayed in the Baumann Glacier room and can recommend this to others. It was nice to have a separate bathroom and separate toilet/WC, as well as dressing gowns provided for us.

Arrived very late one night after driving from Nelson with two young daughters and found Jo waiting up for us. He helped us settle in upstairs, making sure we took our shoes off, a nice take home from his time spent in Japan. We slept well, awoke none too early and had a hearty breakfast that he cooked for us; my daughters polished off 4 eggs each that morning. A nice touch was to show them his small garden outside his house and pick a few fresh strawberries which he cut up and gave them for breakfast.

I would give this place a perfect score except it is a small bed and breakfast so you have to adjust expectations from larger, fancier and pricier places. But is was great for our small family for that one night we stopped by. Thanks Jo...

Stayed for 3 nights at Ribbonwood and apart from the great bedroom and bathroom and breakfasts that we had, we will always remember the very highest quality of service given by both Jo and Julie. We left as good friends to them both.

we really enjoyed the stay at Ribbonwood. The hosts, Julie en Joe, are very friendly and let us feel like at home.
We had rain almost the hole time of our stay, but this weather also belongs to southern NZ . Joe took much time to tell us about the very special nature of the region. Because he has been a ranger of the DOC, he knows all about flora & fauna. N.B. in the garden of Ribbonwood retreat you find almost exlusive native shrubs and trees.

Unfortunately, we only spent one night in Ribbonwood. It was a great place, where we would have liked to stay several weeks. The hospitality and the welcome was so friendly and warm that we felt at home from the first moment. The insider informations from you both about the activities around your home were excellent and helpful. Should we come again to New Zealand one day, be assured that we would like to stay at your home again.

Thanks a lot again and with kindly regards,

Christina and Franz Peternell

We found this b&b on the internet while searching for places to stay near Franz Josef Glacier. This was approximately a 5 minute drive from the village and glacier. Julie and Jo are very accommodating, and provide ample knowledge of the area. They are flexible with check in and breakfast times to suit your travel needs.

We stayed in the studio cottage adjacent to the main building. It was a gorgeous wooden cabin, with an amazing view of the glacier through a picture window over the bed, and a beautiful view of trees and meadow through a large sliding glass door. The room was very clean and comfortable with plenty of room to spread out, and all of the amenities you may need. I would definitely recommend this to those travelling to the area.

We spent two nights at Ribbonwood Retreat, a B&B, in the separate cottage next to the main house. It is a complete unit, with kitchen and extra space for eating or working, decks on both sides for relaxing outside, and spectacular views through the many windows, including one of the glaciers off in the distance. Jo and Julia were very friendly and helpful, and prepared an excellent breakfast. It is a bit more expensive than many other places we stayed on either the North or s=South Islands, none delivered this level comfort, space, and top level furnishings.
