“Wonderful Apartment”

I have booked a Rainforest Retreat 3 bedrooms for my family trip in Franz Josef, New Zealand.
It was a quiet place for our vacation. One door with dinning room, kitchen, bathroom and two bedrooms. The next door with 1 bedroom and a bathroom. Comfortable beds and completed kitchen equipment with clothes washing facilities in the room. The price is also reasonable.

Somethig strange occurs with this hotel. Although offering good rooms, at our stay we noticed a total absence of maintenence and cleanliness of the room and bathroom (we needed to clean it). The communal kitchen was in a total chaos at the final day of our stay, everithig was dirty and impossible to make anithing on it.

We booked into this hotel as I was quite taken with the description of tree-houses and tree lodges. True enough, everything was made of wood, but then so are most places in NZ. The rooms were nice enough, but unfortunately we were in the same night as a club 18-35 coach, and although we were a way from the bar, we could hear people yelling all night. The spa was also a bit basic.

The Tree Lodge room felt cheap and relocatable. It was clean but difficult to keep warm. The towels were tiny and oddly textured. The staff seemed to be entirely made up of backpackers who wanted to communicate only with other young people. I seemed to be an annoyance.
The breakfast was delivered on a tray the evening before for us to prepare in our room. It was OK. I washed the cutlery and plates provided with the room, they had a greasy feel. I will stay somewhere else next time.

We spent almost a month travelling through New Zealand and this was by far the best holiday park we stayed at. The site for our camper van was virtually enclosed on all sides and above by rainforest apart from on side to drive in to (obviously). Staff on the front desk were very helpful and flights up the glaciers were booked by them for us without hassle. Ablution block was clean and more than adequate.
Altogether an fantastoc holiday park to stay at.

We stayed for 4 nights in a room with a kitchenette which was very handy but not for meal cooking. The shower was OK. . We did most of the cooking in the general kitchen- this spot could have been better equipped and with more fresh towels and bit more tidy. Many of the burners did not work. We also did laundry and it was fine. The motel was a few minutes walk from the main street, very convenient. However it was not a very quite place to stay at (at least around our room), if noise in the middle of the night does not bother you, then it is OK. The room was cleaned daily, this was nice. The staff helped us a lot with flight booking, etc.

I loved the Rainforest retreat as they combined the shared room occupants well and had a beautiful backdrop. My main complaint would be the showers. They could only be turned on and not adjust the temperature - sometimes it was scalding hot and others unbearably cold dependent on when you went (and could change quite quickly too). Was glad that I was recommended to stay here though.
