When we booked out trip, we liked the idea of the rainforest accommodation, and were so thrilled when we arrived at the Rainforest Retreat. We (3 adults) stayed in a tree hut - it was amazing. The cutest timber hut, with plenty of room for 3 of us. The room was very comfortable - good heating, nice shower - all environmentally friendly. It's so beautiful set in amongst the rainforest - very relaxing and refreshing. Since we only stayed 1 night we didn't use any of the facilities - the complimentary spa looked great but we ran out of time.
Excellent position to access the sights of Franz Joseph. The kiwi wildlife park is just around the corner within easy walking distance. As are the shops and tour departures in the main street of town. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who appreciates comfortable, affordable accommodation, with beautiful rainforest surroundings. We'll definitely return and stay longer next time.

Room Tip: The tree huts are fabulous

Hi Tricia,

Many thanks for such a lovely review. I love the tree huts too, they are so comfy and warm. I'm pleased you noticed out environmental efforts, we have recently been awarded a silver environmental award from Qualmark that we are very proud of. Going for gold next year!
Its a shame you didn't have time to use the complimentary Spa, hopefully next time.
I'll look forward to seeing you again.
Kind Regards

We were really happy with this spot especially since we hadn't researched the area. I believe we found it in our Frommer's book. We didn't see the rooms since we slept in our camper van. We slept really well which was surprising since there were almost at capacity that night. It was walking distance to the Franz Josef hot springs which was sooo relaxing. Due to the limited time, we had to be on the move the next morning but we had a great time!

The onsite bar and restaurant - Monsoon - had a great atmosphere with good food and drinks. Highlight - monteiths apple cider on tap!

Rainforest Retreat, proved an amazing experience, We booked a tree hut, which was great blending in with the forest and offering a balcony into the trees. The room was comfortable, clean and well equiped. We enjoyed some drinks in the bar which was packed with young people, (not quite our generation) however this was in no way off putting.
We ate locally and had plenty of choice all within walking distance.
Induldge yourself and try their outdoor hot tub, bookable at reception for a wonderful private moment amongst the forest.
Having come across snowy Arthurs Pass to arrive here was an amazing contrast and well worth it.

Room Tip: Book a tree house at the back.

Hi,
Thank you for your wonderful review. I am so pleased that you found your tree hut so comfortable and clean. The onsite bar is defiantly a fantastic spot to enjoy a meal and a few drinks, having just under gone a huge renovation its great to hear everyone is enjoying it so much.

We stayed for one night in a "tree lodged" room. Nice place overall.
However, we heard everything our neighbors were doing due to bad insulation, plus every time they closed the entrance door the whole house felt like shaking. The air-conditioner smelled badly when working.

Room Tip: Try to choose a different room or make sure that you have no neighbors.

Hi,

Many thanks for your review. I was really pleased that you thought we have such a nice place. I have looked into the air-conditioner and given it a service so is all fine now. We also looked at the door which had to be slightly adjusted, it now shuts quietly and smoothly. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Many Thanks
