Called a lodge but definitely a motel. Spotlessly clean and has a nice balcony for fresh air. Staff are friendly and nice. We had a few maintenance issues that were taken care of. Able to park car right outside door. The town is very small so short walk to shops only. The motel is one of the most expensive we experienced in NZ at about 230 AUD per night.
We stopped here half way from Christchurch to Queenstown, and other than the glacier, there is little to see and do in this town. We walked from town to the glacier along the river road and track. It was about 12 kms and very beautiful.
