The food was lovely. It is nice sitting near the cozy fire.
However the waiters weren't welcoming at all. We had just driven for 5 hours, most of which through torrential rain to get to Franz Josef so even just a slight smile would have been greatly appreciated.

Thank Blessings-to-you

We enjoyed the warm soup and the good food. The service was excellent but a bit slow. The place has a relaxed and warm atmosphere.

We only went there for desert after having dinner somewhere else, however the pavlova was very nice and the staff we very attentive. They also offered free wifi for customers which came in handy, and the place was well presented inside with a big old open fire

this place looked quite nice from the front, like a real restaurant, but the food was more like a cheap takeaway. i had a big breakfast type meal which was okay but pretty hard to stuff up. my husband had a supposedly satay chicken burger that was pretty poor.

We drove over from Fox Glacier where we were staying to get a more varied choice of food than offered in the Fox. The menu looked really good and after looking at all the other choices in the town went back to this one. It began good with the waiter giving good service but after the second drink and still no sign of the food arriving we began to get a little annoyed. None of the staff came over and apologised for the wait and after a good while one meal arrived which my husband had got half way through and still no sign of mine. My husband complained about the lack of my meal which then came but the food on the outside of the plate was cold. None of the staff apologised for the wait. A group of 3 on the next table were also suffered a similar experience to ourselves. It was a shame because the food was not to bad but the service needs considerable improvement.
