“Packed too close”
Reviewed March 14, 2013 via mobile

The camping ground was clean and a bit stark, it looked quite new. The facilities were good but my husband had to wait for a shower and he felt that the number of showers and toilets was not adequate for the number of people in the camp. We were in our campervan and were very close to the neighbours. This is disappointing in a site that is quite expensive. The staff were pleasant and friendly.

After 10 days tenting through east coast, golden bay and upper west coast, we came across this camp ground....it's surrounded with beautiful views (mountains, glaciers, wooded, and marsh land). A bit away from town, about 2-3 km, so it is very quiet. The facilities are great, more than adequate to accommodate all at peak season. The staff are so friendly, as well. They did the booking for glacier flight, and got a discount for us eventhough we were not Top10 member. Would spend more time here, if we had more time. Perfect tenting sites!

Room Tip: Best tenting sites are toward the back of the campground.

Excellent campers kitchen, lounge and showers etc.
Our Motorhome was on a concrete slab with grass between sites in a well laid out park.
A viewing site had been created from a large mound which was planted out; a nice distant view of Franz Joseph glacier and the surrounding snow capped mountains from here.
An ironing board was broken and unusable on this occasion and hair dryers overheated and cut out.

We stayed one night in a unit with full kitchen. There was another unit alongside us and two that backed on to us four in all. What I liked was that at the end attached to our building of four was a long wide corridor that contained showers and toilets specifically for those units. There was plenty of hot water and the facilities were very clean. We had a lovely veranda so everything was uncover. The units were modern, as were all other facilities. The view was stunning as we could see the glacier clearly. We had our own outside table and chairs as did each unit. Helicopter rides were available and a discount was offerred by being Top 10 members and staying with Top 10. The staff were great and very courteous. Lovely place to stay.

We stayed here for one night, the site is one of the bigger top 10 sites and has a variety of accomdation to choose from. All the facilities were very clean.
The campers are placed all very close to each other so theres little privacy, and it can become fairly noisey with camper vans sliding doors and lights going on and off, the helicopters start their flights early so it becomes nisey very early.
For a fantastic area in south island the camp lacked any atmosphere and the staff were to say the least unhelpful.

Room Tip: Get there early and request to choose your own camper/ tent site.

We stayed one night here and unfortunately never got to see the glacier because it was raining so hard and everything was shrouded in cloud. Nevertheless our accommodation here was very good for the price. We had the communal kitchen almost next door to us so did not have to get wet coming and going. We did have a chalet with an ensuite which I was grateful for as I watched one or two poor souls rushing to and fro to the shower blocks in torrential rain. They only needed to step outside the door really. Had the weather been better we had a small area outside to sit with a glass of wine, but as it was we were glad that we could bring the car almost to the door to load and unload our bags.

Two couples shared a two bedroom unit with separate lounge area and well equipped kitchen. Clean and very comfortable beds. TV reception was an issue but considering the location we were not surprised. Note in room did offer help from reception if required. After climbing glacier we were more interested in a good nights rest rather than TV. Other accommodation in this area far more expensive. Good value for money
