“Not a bad spot to relax for 20 mins when its included as part of the glacier trip”
Reviewed April 28, 2014

These pools are a good spot to relax at but just be aware that they are hot-tubs made out of fibreglass or equivalent material and they are full of water heated purposely. When I hear glacial hot pools I expect to sit in rock pools full of water that was heated by volcanic activity.

“A Hot Tub in the Rain”
Reviewed April 13, 2014 via mobile

The weather here in Franz Joseph today has been truly awful with one of the largest deluges I think I have ever seen. So much so that all the helicopter rides - including ours - up to the glacier were cancelled earning that we had to look for something to bide away a few hours until dinner this evening. After a visit to the wildlife centre to hear about endangered kiwis - the birds by the way - we had a but of lunch and headed to the glacier pools which are situated next to our hotel. Ii think most of the people staying in the village had the same idea as the pools were pretty packed I indeed so there were no lockers available and personal space was at a premium.

This is not cheap for what you get which is essentially three enlarged hot tubs at varying temperatures of between 36 and 40 degrees. This said, it did allow a bit of chill out time on what was ultimately a disappointing day.

Apparently there are private pools for hire for 45 minutes as well, which we only found out about when departing. Given our time again we would have probably plumped for them .

“Relaxing”
Reviewed April 10, 2014

We went to the public pool, would say its a little expensive for the fee (45$), but overall quite relaxing given the cold and rainy weather in franz joseph. Locker facility was not free though. Go to the three pools in increasing order of temperature!

“Private pool is great ”
Reviewed April 3, 2014 via mobile

We went both nights we were in Franz Josef. The first night we had a private pool which also includes entry into the three other pools. The private pool is great - completely secluded and surrounded by nice trees and scenery. You also get your own change room with towels, toilet and shower. It was for 45min which was plenty as we'd already spent over an hour in the other pools. The public pools are nice and relaxing though I imagine would get noisy if it had been busier (both evenings were very quiet for us). Our second night we got free entry due to doing a glacier walk - this was a great bonus. Thought the prices were good as have paid much more at home (Australia) for a similar experience.

We brought our own towels and no valuables so didn't need to hire a locker or anything. No idea what they cost. Staff were very friendly as well.

“Very relaxing ”
Reviewed April 3, 2014 via mobile

Stayed in Franz Josef two nights and we went to the hot pools on both nights, the 2nd night was free because we had done the glacier walk. There are three pools 36c, 38c, & 40c. We also got on of the private pools for 45 mins and it had its own changeroom and shower. The private pool automatically drains when your time it up. Very nice after hiking on the glacier.
