The cottages are beautiful, well maintained, with absolutely outstanding views to the mountains/glaciers. I agree with other comments that some of the metal along the river bed is unpleasant but the views truly outweigh this a-plenty!

Additionally, we were in the unfortunate position of attempting to leave Franz Josef as TC Ita affected Northern Island and North/West of the South Island. If the cottages weren't welcoming enough, the owners also went out of their way to assist us with advice and access to local information and knowledge. Had it not been for their welcoming nature and kindness, we would have missed our flight home the following morning.

Yes, the cottages are gorgeous and the location lovely. But the hospitality and willingness to help demonstrated true dedication to travelers!

I stayed here with my husband, mom and aunt while visiting the glacier. The cabin was comfortable for our night's stay, but very basic. The lobby had information about wifi and DVD rentals, $2 per person per day for wifi and $5 to rent an old dvd. Normally I wouldn't notice that kind of stuff, but we had just driven a long day and wanted to unwind for a bit. The single beds were quite uncomfortable and my mom and aunt said they felt like they were going to fall out if they moved. The place is a little out of town but just a 5 min drive, so nothing too bad. Quite a bit of insects were able to sneak in, but it's rural NZ, so you can expect that! It worked for a place to stay the night, but wouldn't vacation here for a while. I would recommend it as a basic accommodation, no frills.

We stayed here recently for 1 night. The cottage was basic but clean and comfortable and had a great view. The location is great and the value for money Is excellent. The service was very friendly. Would stay here again.

Great cabins, very picturesque. Great views of the snow covered mountains from the cabin. Only complaint was that it was advertised as a two bedroom, however it's really a 1 bedroom cabin with a 2nd double bed in the lounge. Also, would be good if there were fly screen on doors and windows, otherwise all the sand flies raid the cabin when doors and windows are open. Cabin has a nice small kitchen. Would stay again. Cabins were very new and free wifi worked well in the cabin.

One of the worst properties we've stayed in. The owners don't seem very interested in maintaining their cottages and seem to focus on their other business/farming ventures. We were greeted with a note on the office door and wouldn't have seen the hosts if we didn't seek them out.
The cottage door lock could be opened without a key if you jiggled it enough, the crockery was very dirty and we felt uncomfortable using it. The bed was old/poor quality and with a very soft/springy feel and the shower head was awful (with a big dry void in the middle).
The view was spectacular (if you looked beyond the 3 old concrete trucks parked by the side of the river) but unfortunately the glacier has retreated so much that it can no longer bee seen from this area.

Room Tip: Spend a little more and stay in one of the larger hotels in town.
