“Great Base for Exploring the Area”
Reviewed May 1, 2010

This property is located a short drive out of town, very convenient to all the sights. On site parking is available. Karen Simpson, our host, greeted us upon arrival with a cup of tea and some nibbles and spent time with us orienting us to the area and how best to explore. We found her to be extremely knowledgeable and she gave accurate information on what to do when on a questionable weather day.

Our spacious room with roomy ensuite modern bath was private and separate from the main house with its own entrance. Breakfasts were excellent including continental and cooked to order. (Her poached eggs were the best I have ever had anywhere.)

On a clear day (we did have one!) the views of the glacier and mountains from the B&B are spectacular. So were the sunsets.

We were well-looked after here and would highly recommend Fox Glacier Mountainview B&B as a base for exploring the area.

Rooms are very nice, excellent beds and showers, with great views if the weather is good. It's a bit out of town, but on the way to Lake Matheson and Gillespies Beach.

We arrived here after a long drive from Christchurch and could not have been happier with our accommodations. Karen is a hoot! She is so funny, so helpful, a great cook and a great story teller. We had a lot of fun here and she just was right on with every recommendation. From what the weather was going to do, to a sunrise trip to Lake Matheson, to amazing dinner recommendations - she just made our time in Fox Glacier some of our favorite days of the whole trip! Also, the view from our room and the peace and quiet of the location cannot be beat. Make sure you stay there at least 2 nights!

This may not have the charm of some of the other B&B's we have stayed in but it is clean, functional and has a tremendous view of Mounts Cook and Tasman if the weather allows (you can even get a cracking mirror photo in the duck pond!). Karen is full of useful information, spot on at weather forecasting, and well connected to the local tours.
The only negative is that noise travelled easily between the rooms in the main house (won't be a problem in the seperate cottage) and we could clearly hear other guests during the night.

A gem of a place with a super host who just couldn't be more thoughtful and helpful.
Great location near to all the "must do's" and walking distance of Lake Mathieson for early morning and late evening viewing. Karen was a fund of local knowledge and had some great recommendations and tips to make our 2 day stay really memorable.
The private self catering cabin was clean and very well presented and breakfast in the house with other guests was excellent - the best cooked breakfast of our 6 week trip.
Highly recommended.

This B and B has everything you could want, a wonderful host - who can't do enough for you, lovely rooms, wonderful views and a lovely hot or cold breakfast. The location was perfect and the surrounding dinner options fantastic. Thanks Karen for a wonderful stay - we all thought your place was the pick of all the places we stayed including the 5 star hotels.

Every now and then you find a hidden gem, tucked away from the main thoroughfare, with a view that is magnificent, with a host to match.

We had spent the day on the Fox Glacier, hiking. We were exhausted and found Mountainview to be a tranquil place set amongst farmland but with a mountain backdrop, it was exactly what we needed after a day on the ice.

We ate out that night. Fox is limited for nighlife so if you are happy to have nice quiet supper ( we ate at a restaurant opposite the Fox Alpine Guides office) and 'takeaway' some beers from the local bar to take back to your room, then stay here. It was just what we needed after and adventurous day.

Karen was a great host, friendly and chatty, adding to the relaxing feel of our stay. Breakfast was GORGEOUS. All in all we felt the $180 a bargain for such a lovely stay.

We certainly have fond memories of our stay here.
