What a pleasant surprise. Even though the owners were in the process of closing for the season they kept the hotel open for us. We were the only customers and were given a key to the front door. The owner personally prepared a wonderful breakfast for us the next morning. A wonderful value and experience.

Nice folks and nice/new room. We stayed in 10 different hotels during our 3 week vacation to NZ, from Christchurch to Nelson area, down the west coast to Queenstown, Milford Sound and back to Christchurch. High Peaks was the most expensive, smallest, and the only one with no kitchen or even a refrigerator. It had a small "cooler" but was not turned on when we arrived and after running for 2 days it still did not keep things cool. It was one of the few rooms with no view and what a shame with Mt Cook right there in view as you drove around the town.

I regret that this gentleman was unhappy with his stay at High Peaks but there are some issues that I would like to address. Firstly High Peaks is a HOTEL, Not A Motel. Hotel rooms do not have kitchens, motels do. So clearly this gent had been staying in motels. Hotels generally command higher tariffs than motels because of the added facilities they offer, ie, reception with lounge and full time receptionist, bar and restaurant. Also tariffs tend to be higher in the Glacier region due to short tourist season. Our tariffs are very competitive compared with similar styles and levels of accommodation.
Our rooms and bathrooms are very spacious, much larger in fact than most hotel rooms.
The coolers in the rooms are for small items like medicines and water bottles and are certainly not for large quantities of food. Refridgerater and freezer space is available at reception.
We have a magnificent view of Mt Cook and Mt Tasman from our property but regretably it was not possible to build a 20 room accommodation block on limited space and have every room with a view. The view we enjoy can not be seen from the town, as stated in the review, but only down Cook Flat Road where High Peaks is situated.
In summary, I am disappointed that this gentleman chose to stay here for 2 nights and then complain on Trip Avisor, without naming hiself I note. As the room was not suitable he should have checked out on arrival and found the type and budget of accommodation he required.
High Peaks is not set up for self catering but if you are genuine hotel style travellers we would love to see you and will go out of our way to ensure you have a very happy stay.

Stayed 2 nights in the King Suite which was a standard hotel room, clean, comfortable but lacked atmosphere. We ate in the restaurant one evening and would rate the food and service as average, food was well cooked but the menu lacked imagination. No air conditioning and a charge for internet didn't endear us, but on the plus side the receptionist was very helpful and her advice proved to be useful.

We stayed at High Peaks Hotel for 3 nights and found it to be a delightful place to stay. The rooms are spacious , well appointed and spotlessly clean. The staff were cheerfull and helpfull. We dined in the restaurant each night and found the food to be world class. In fact we have dined at many of the top restaurants around the world and found the food at High Peaks to be as good as any we have eaten. A lovely place.

A good hotel to stay if you don't want to be in the middle of 'town'. We ate at the restaurent which was okay, not bad but not great either (as the promo said it would be). I would probarly stay here again as it is a little out of town and is nice and quiet.
