“The best of what really matters in life!”
Reviewed February 16, 2009

My wife and I stayed at Misty Peaks whilst on a recent visit to New Zealand. The generous welcome and fun provided by our wonderful hosts, Dave and Lea, made the visit to Fox Glacier a memorable one. The food was excellent and I even got a candle in my birthday breakfast! Can't recommend Misty highly enough for the genuine Kiwi experience. David Donnelly

We stayed here for 5 nights of our honeymoon and were sad to leave. The hosts (Dave and Lea) were warm and down-to-earth, dinner was great (try the fish, and that delectable caramel sauce on the sticky date pudding!!) and the Honeymoon Suite was a treat to stay in. Misty Peaks B&B makes other B&Bs feel impersonal and sets a high standard to live up to.

  • Liked — The hosts, the dinner, the location, Dave's braces
  • Disliked — Nothing

We stayed at this B&B for 2 nights early November, loved it. The owners were very friendly not intrusive. They were there if you needed them otherwise left to ourselves, Breky was all I wanted Continental or cooked. Rooms were well equiped & very clean. While we were there internet was installed in all rooms. Overall we had an excellent stay & would happily recommend to anyone

Unfortunately due to our (travel time) miscalculations, we did not arrive at Misty Peaks until about 8:30pm. (In case any of you plan to take the “scenic route”, and stop at every single lookout from Queenstown – it’s a five hour trip, not 3 hours which is a number we had randomly made up in our heads to Misty Peaks.)

Upon arriving, we were greeted by the host who took us to our room, and advised that she had upgraded us to the honeymoon suite, which was very fitting, since we were actually on our honeymoon. The room was quite large, with a big bed, luxury linen, shower and spa, separate toilet, heated tiles, towel rack etc. For a small town like Fox Glacier, Misty Peaks is definitely high end compared to the other offerings in town.

We were invited to join the company for a glass of wine, and to watch the football grand final, however the driving wore us out so we slept the night away. If we had known there were other Australians loitering about, we may have made that extra effort.

Breakfast is the typical toast, eggs etc that you find at most B&Bs. The couple was friendly, and certainly had that element of a home stay feel, rather than a B&B in the lounge. (A little bit undecided about whether this is a pro or con.)

Fox Glacier is literally around the corner from Misty Peaks, (ok, less than 10 minute drive – but for a famous natural landmark, that’s pretty good).

A very short, but sweet stay.

  • Liked — Close proximity to Fox Glacier
  • Disliked — Not much to do in area other than Fox Glacier. Internet in lounge (no privacy).

We were met by the owners of the hotel and found them to be intrusive.
There was no internet available in the rooms and you had to use your computer in the living room, this is difficult to do when people are around you having conversations.

If you have no friends this place would be ideal for you as the owners keapt on asking questions and listened to your conversations and tried to join in. This was not wanted, nor asked for, I found it intrusive and an invasion of my privacy.

Breakfast was also horrible and cooked with little skill or enthusiasam.

You could spend your money more wisely somewhere else and have a better time.

I would not recomend this place for anything!!!!

Had an very pleasant nights stay at Misty Peaks in the shoulder season (we got a good price from wotif), definitely one of the nicest places in Fox.

  • Liked — fantastic bedding with great views
  • Disliked — nothing really, it is a little out of Fox though
