Reviewed May 9, 2012

You can categorize Misty Peaks as Hotel or Home Stay but it is perfect in either category. The location is perfect for one whom plan to visit Lake Matheson at sun rise or sun set and also close to Fox Glacier's town center. I recommended you have dinner at the hotel. I love both my dinner and breakfast here.

Stayed at Misty Peaks with two friends as part of a roadtrip of the South Island, NZ, and left feeling very much at home. Lee and Dave put on an excellent spread, from wine and cheese of an evening to a full breakfast the next day and provided entertaining conversation at night (when we weren't glued to the property's wi-fi!). Thanks for an excellent stay guys, will be highly recommending you at home!

No need to say much because all the positive things has been said in the previous reviews which made us choose this place. Lea and Dave are a wonderful couple and made our stay very enjoyable. Nice, clean, homey, good food and fantastic scenery. Highly recommended.

Thanks Lea and Dave for making me feel so welcome in your luxury B+B. All your recommendations for sites - late Mathieson at Dawn and Gillespie Beach at sunset - and restauarants were spot on. I'll be recommending your place to everyone I meet despite the tea-making skills (!).

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the Mountains.

My wife and I stayed at Misty Peaks in January 2012 for 2 nights. Sadly, the weather in Fox was poor during our stay but there was little hosts Dave and Lea could do about that! Misty Peaks is just 2 or 3 minutes away from the center of Fox Glacier and is therefore ideally sited if you are planning a Glacier Walk.

Upon arrival, we were shown into the Honeymoon Suite (a complementary upgrade which was very welcome) and then offered tea and cakes with our hosts where they gave us advice on the local area and generally made us feel very welcome. Breakfasts were fantastic!

Prior to dinner, all the guests got together for a complementary glass of wine and some cheese. A good chance to get to know the folks we would eat with.

Dave cooks the evening meals at Misty Peaks. The menu is simple but is excellently cooked from great ingredients. You choose what you'd like for dinner earlier in the day. We ate with Dave and the other guests around the communal table with much talk and banter and plenty of free-flowing wine. Very enjoyable.

The Honeymoon Suite is a large room with large separate bathroom with Spa Bath. It was perfect for our 2 days stay.

My one and only negative for Misty Peaks was the price. My wife and I stayed in about 15 B&Bs whilst in NZ, all were what you might call Boutique B&Bs. Misty Peaks was by far the most expensive, having to also pay for Internet and for Laundry which was complimentary in most. Overall though, if you can afford it and are not worried about the price, Misty Peaks is ideally located for the glaciers and Dave and Lea won't disapoint.

Room Tip: Honeymoon Suite upgrade would be good if you can get it

We had a great couple of nights at Misty Peaks, Lea and Dave were brilliant hosts, warm and friendly, plenty of local knowledge, and Dave is a fine cook. Our room was spacious, the location is superb with fantastic views of the mountains. We were also treated to some great sunsets!

We had 2 nights in Fox, and visited both Fox and Franz Joseph glaciers.

Great B&B perfectly situated if you want to discover the Fox Glacier region. Dinner was good. Only min point was the price for the stay.
