“Overnight stay only”

Not able to comment fully as overnight stay in onward journey. Set out a title way from the Main Street. The reception and check out was efficient and friendly. 2 bedroom unit was adequate for us and you have facilities for cooking. My reticence springs from losing a coin down the side of the settee and finding lots of crumbs etc when putting my hand down .... Strange what can put you off! Otherwise it was neat and clean.

Came for one night, but stayed three. Rooms clean, and comfortable and everything I wanted:
Coffee French Press, toaster, stove, microwave. Sit in the back deck and view the mountain.
But the best part may be the really friendly couple who own the place. While here, do a heli hike up on the gacier and go into some amazing blue ice caves.
Will come back soon!

Room Tip: All the rooms are good from what I saw.

Great rooms with lovely views. Unfortunately it was cloudy ands we could have moved on within two days but having booked three days we could not cancel the last night. Understandable as they were not full and they need to make money. We did get a flight but the discount just brings it back to the price you pay if you go direct. Wifi is an expensive extra and the connection was very slow and not constant. Annoying when you are paying extra! The first night was hopeless why I think everyone was online at the same time! Laundry facilities are excellent. Water pressure is a bit low and it took a while to fill the bath. You do need a car to get to town unless you like a fairly long walk there and back each evening to eat. Cooking facilities not good, no hob. Quite expensive to eat out but you are a captive audience here. We still really enjoyed our stay and the rooms are spacious and light.

Most people stay at Fox Glacier to go and see the glacier and the Sunset Motel is ideal for this, though you do need car. The unit was well equipped for cooking though we were advised to visit a supermarket (New World, Countdown, etc) before we arrived as the local shops are expensive, but in the event we eat out. There are several restaurants serving 'pub grub' but they tend to fill up early so book or prepared to wait. The sunset view from the unit's windows would have been spectacular but clouds got in the way.

We found this motel more by accident than good planning and what a find. We stayed in Room 23 and the view was gorgeous, we looked straight up at the mountains and Mount Cook.

To be fair the motel I should start with check in - our hostess was absolutely delightful, such a happy person and we had a really good laugh with one of the reps visiting her. We were allocated our room and given a small carton of FRESH milk - much nicer than the milk you usually find in motels. I checked on where we could book a helicopter flight and our hostess was happy to organise it and even got us a discount. The room was lovely, clean, modern and quite large with panoramic window looking over the mountains. There was a well appointed kitchen for a motel but I didn't cook. The visitor conpendium was the best I have seen with so much information on the area and things to do along the west coast. If back in the area I wouldn't stay anywhere else.

Nicely furnished unit with kitchenette fridge and modern bathroom. The view from the room was spectacular.

We'd arrived in Fox Glacier having been warned that it might be a bit full, and several places on the main road were showing no vacancy, but fortunately for us this place had 2 rooms left and we grabbed one of them. it was about a 10 minute walk to the main road where the host was happy to recommend the restaurants to try.

After a long drive, we were glad to arrive here to find a property, that quite frankly, was better than I was expecting.
In fact, the whole place looked as if it had just been dropped off, fresh from the factory!
Isn't it strange that often, just one aspect can make or break a visit to somewhere new? For my wife and I, we were impressed by two. The room faced the valley leading up to the Ccok and Tasman peaks, so the view was gorgeous, and even better, there was a small terrace beyond the sliding doors, so you could experience the view and the fresh air, together. We decided instantly, that we would dine in and enjoy the view for as long as possible. The shops around Fox Glacier were more than capable of providing for our needs.
We have just one grumble, and it's the "wifi" thing again. For many travellers nowadays, wifi isn't an optional extra. They need it to keep in touch, and while Sunset wasn't as expensive as big city hotels, the extra costs all add up. Note to owners. Use free wifi as your USP. I don't think you'd be disappointed with the results!
Finally, one concern for some travellers. There are two heli pads quite close to the Motel, which could cause you disturbance during the day if you were around. We didn't really mind, but it's worth considering if you'd really prefer silence!
