“Warm & cosy cabin”
Reviewed July 8, 2012

Based on previous reviews, we booked the separate log cabin. It was just perfect and so much more than we expected. When we arrived, we were warmly greeted by owner and shown to our cabin. Breakfast ingredients all ready for us, pine cones & lavendar on the bed; lollies, a very warm (gas) coonara and a large spa bath. Very comfortable and private cabin, very clean. Very short walk to village and eateries. Loved our 2 night stay here. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Hotel is in a quiet location so noise not an issue.

We only booked one night, as it was just a stopover on our road trip on the South Island. When we pulled up, we were pleasantly surprised with the wooden lodges. We had splurged a little bit and gotten one of the larger rooms, and boy were we glad that we did!
We had a large room, with an ensuite with a spa, and a kitchen. The kitchen was stoked with milk and juice and cereals for brekkie, the bathroom had fresh towels with sprigs of lavender, and there was even a fireplace.
Such a cute room, for such a reasonable price.
The reception was very helpful in recommending tours and hikes on the fox glacier. we were there for such a short time, but fell in love and can't wait to return (one day!)

There is not much to the town of Fox Glacier and not much to see if you have rainy weather as we did last February, but, if you go there, you must stay at the Fox Glacier Lodge. We stayed in the King Chalet, which was a very large comfortable room with cooking facilities and a spa. Our gracious hostess, Deborah, even baked us bread on our arrival.

My friend and I stayed here for two nights as we were helihiking on the nearby Fox Glacier. The room (ground floor at the front) was spacious with both a queen and a single bed, both with electric blankets. We also had a little table and chairs outside on a little verandah. We had a little trouble with the tv (could only get two channels I think), and the bathroom was a bit on the chilly side, but these were minor things really, massively outweighed by the prettiness of the room and setting, and the quality and quantity of breakfast on offer every day. It was very difficult not to eat everything, it was all so delicious! Would definitely recommend this place to others.

We stumbled on this lodge during dark while viewing a couple of hostels. We had been planning to stay at a hostel but after seeing this lodge we immediately upped our budget to stay for 2 nights.

We had a twin room which consisted a large double, plus a single. It had a couple of nice touches like sweets and a spring of lavender in the room.

The great thing was the breakfast room! The rooms are situated in a wooden lodge and there was a separate room with a log fire, big dining table and all the cooking equipment which was the breakfast room. It had cereals, yoghurt, milk, juice and eggs. Although this is left open all day, you can only help yourself to tea and coffee anytime, with the food at breakfast time :)
Overall, great value for money, v friendly, great location and would go back.

We stayed here for a hike up the glacier. We got the mezzanine with two floors, perfect condition and a lot of eye for details to make it cosy. Great bubble bath which we gladly utilized after a cold and wet, but very satisfying hike on the glacier. We happily stayed in for the rest of the day (it was a storm). The hostess was very friendly and attentive, and helpful. All in all it was simply a pleasure to be there.

We stayed here in a campervan for 2 nights in order to take the heli hike up to the Glacier. Have noted that most (all?) of the reviews about this place seem to apply to the Lodge and room accommodation whereas my comments only apply to the CAMPERVAN park part of this property.

The young lady in reception was lovely and very helpful and allowed us to park our van wherever we liked so we were able to choose a nice convenient spot. This was on the 1st May so don't know if it would be as easy in peak times.

Shower and toilet block was a bit limiting to say the least. From memory 2 or 3 unisex toilets and 2 large "disabled" shower rooms with a toilet in them. At evening and mornings there was a bit of a queue as more campers came in. However, managed to get a hot shower etc, but it wasn't what you call a "top facility". Also, there is one small laundry room with washing machine and drier which we used successfully using lots of coins.

The kitchen block was located way over the far side of the park and was only very small with 2 stove tops and sinks and limited table seating. There were 2 other families in there when we were trying to have breakfast and it was too much so went back to the van.

There is a nice little BBQ shelter and free gas BBQ which we used to grill dinner on and it worked well. Set over by itself near the edge of the park and trees. Quite pleasant.

We got a bit of a start just after dark when the Kea birds "attacked" the roof and got stuck into the rubber bits. However they only lasted a few minutes after chasing them off.

The best part of this park is its location. Situated only 50m or so from the main road which runs thru the little village of Fox Glacier and a very short stroll across the road to the booking office for Fox Glacier Guiding tours and helicopters. There is a well stocked little mini "supermart" or convenience store and coffee shop only 2 mins walk from the Lodge. Just down from the entrance to the Lodge and camper park on the corner is a cafe and Information centre.

On the morning of our helicopter trip we had to be in the office at 8.45am and we only had to walk across the road at 8.40. So convenient.

During the day the ablution blocks were very nicely cleaned and fresh when we returned.

Am rating this place 4 out of 5 for its location and friendly staff and at $34NZ per night great value.
