We arrived late, under prior agreement, to be met by the proprietor who smelled strongly of alcohol. His manner was offhand, and although he ran through the courtesies, I got the impression that he would rather have been elsewhere. The dining room was full (a coach party), and no room for us, although in fairness I hadn't booked in advance. We had to go down into the town, which was also heaving, and had to wait 45 minutes for a table.

The motel rooms are superior, both in terms of size and decor, nicely furnished and clean, but we looked out over the rubbish dump at the back, and the area where coaches were cleaned. In fact, next morning we were able to watch the whole cleaning operation.

One of the previous comments made by others is correct - no matter where you put the motel in Fox, it's surrounded by others of the same ilk, and none of them are particularly attractive. This motel is better than most, but not by much. Certainly the prices asked did not equate to the quality of either the room, or the service. We got far better value for our money later in the trip - The Old Manse at Martinborough, for example.

This hotel is over-priced and the staff are unforgeiveably rude! We paid NZ$400.00 per night and it was by far the most expensive night's accommodation of all whole stay in New Zealand. The hotel is on the corner of the main road and a side street and has absolutely no resort type feel as is misrepresented by its promotional material. The manager is over solicitous and the young girl working in the breakfast restuarant was the rudest most obnoxious waitress we have ever experienced. She argued with us in front of other guests over our request to sit at an outside table. Absolutely appalling behaviour by her! we cannot state anymore clearly that this is a "NO GO HOTEL". DO NOT STAY HERE!!!

We came to stay for one night expecting an amazing hotel with great views on lots of land - especially as they wanted NZD$400 a night for a room with breakfast. The photos on the website are misleading, it is right in the middle of lots of other, MUCH CHEAPER motels that looked exactly the same calibre. The restaurant wanted $38 for mains, but looked like a normal hotel fit-out - I have no idea why it was so expensive. Take it as a hint that photos on the website have the curtains closed - you get a great view of carparks/ buildings either side of Te Weheka which they don't show. Our room was right near the laundry, which meant we got to listen the the laundry from morning until night. The rooms weren't expansive, they were nice, but again, for the price, they were the minimum you would expect.
Don't bother staying here, there are PLENTY of other motels right next door with exactly the same views for MUCH cheaper.

I stayed here for 2 nights with my husband and 15 year old daughter. The location is fabulous and our had a balcony with views of the mountains. The rooms are a good size with large and fairly luxurious bathrooms. The breakfast (included in rate) was delicious and served in a pleasant dining room. The guest lounge is very comfortable with more great views, cd player, internet facilities, magazines and books and wine glasses (byo wine!)

Stayed here for two nights in August 2008. I think we were the only ones staying there at the time which was great. i think the rooms had recently been refurbished as they were immaculate and very tastefully decorated. The bathroom was large and it was quite luxurious really. Each room is named after somone significant and explanations are given in the information book. We stayed in the Fox room which is where the glacier gets its name.
The manager was very helpful and laid back and didn't hassle us at all but was there with advice when we asked him. Breakfast was a good buffet, with a cooked breakfat to order if required.
The town itself is very small so you are limited to the restaraunts that are available. There is a bar- come- family restaraunt which is very welcoming and busy. We watched the All Blacks play the Aussies there for the first time in the tri-nations. Very entertaining!
We ate at Neve restaurant both nights. The food is delicious but the second night there was a change of waitress and she was truly dreadful. What a difference a waitress makes! She wasn't unpleasant just inept. Quite a few people walked out and the chef lost his temper on more than one occasion but the food is worth the wait and the aggro.

The area is stunningly beautiful and a trip to the glacier is well advised. You can either hike with a guide or take a helicopter. We took the helicopter and it was an amazing experience.

We were traveling with a group so we did not book this hotel on our own. However, it was definitely a good choice. The room was quite spacious with a lovely view of the mountains. The bathroom quite large with terrific amenities. We had a delicious dinner at their restaurant, with great service and a nice wine selection. Of all the hotels we stayed in in our month of touring New Zealand this one was my favorite. The staff was extremely helpful and welcoming. The location of the hotel was within easy walking distance of the village and several restaurants.

The room (extra large king with two twin matresses) and large bathroom were luxurious and the lounge with internet access was a stylish, warm place to relax. Breakfast was just okay - staff was always in a crunch to get the food on the buffet during the 1 1/2 hours available. The manager was very friendly and helpful in booking the next accommodation for us. We felt we overpaid with 360NZD. Go through booking services for a better price.

Did not try the restaurant. Loved 'Cafe Neve' in town. Good variety of good quality dishes, young people who seem concerned about their customers' welfare.
