I only stayed here one night on a powered site. The site is small but the facilities were good. The site is near Lake Matheson which is a beautiful lake that can be reached by a pleasant walk through a forested area. The staff provided plenty of information on local activities and were helpful.

Great site as very new with swish showers and kitchens. Wifi Internet access very poor here in the mountains. Location seemed nothing special as we arrived in low cloud and drizzle so couldn't see far! But by the morning when it cleared the mountains around were great. Still a bit of a 'car park' layout like many other Top 10 sites though, with little or no spaces between vans.

To stay in Fox Glacier is quite expensive (no matter what the accommodation is); staying at a self-contained cabin here was the best option per cost.
Our cabin was clean and everything we needed was there.
The check-in took forever but only because there was a woman making future reservations - not for the Top 10 but for other activities that were in fact not even in the area!
The "commom" facilities are large and when we were there (March 1, 2013) not crowded at all.
Only negative is that you can hear the helicopters constantly flying to the glacier (but then the village is so small that no matter where you would stay you could probably get the same noise).
We had difficulty w/the TV which was solved by going to the office and getting instructions which were not in the unit guide (although the guide said "instructions are in the back" which were not).
All in all, it worked well for us.

We stayed in the ensuite cabin for one night before going on our glacier walk. The cabin itself was fine, albeit SOOOOO tiny. To save space we left our suitcases in the car. The bathroom was just..... e! It was freezing in there and the shower was sooooooo tiny. (I'm only 5'2" and I found it tiny..... my 6'6" husband.... I really don't know how he managed.

On the upside, the reception lady was extremely sweet and helpful with picking a restaurant for dinner and the view is incredible. It was fine for one night, but I don't think I could have managed any more.

We upgraded to a cabin with ensuite so it cost over $100. The cabin smelled so bad! Clearly the last people to stay had smoked in the cabin - even the pillow and doona smelled. It was hard to sleep. We arrived late so by the time we realized how bad it was it too late to change rooms. Bad night. The toilet in our bathroom also smelled very bad. When i complained to reception in the morning, i got no apologies or refund, just a "Ill make a note to tell the managers". The kids playground was very old and rickety. We didn't use any communal facilities so can't comment on them. I was surprised none of the new cabins were built to take advantage of the view of the mountains - instead all just facing the other motorhomes. We stayed here because of lonely planets recommendation/comments - completely disagree and would not stay here again.

I am very disappointed to hear you did not enjoy your stay.
We have 24hs onsite managers who are more than willing to help at anytime, I wish you had brought the issue to their attention as soon as you noticed.
I am sorry you did not receive an apology or refund at the time.
I sincerely hope to welcome you again in the future for a much nicer stay.
Warm regards
