Mount Cook View Motel

Unfortunately we did not get a room with a view of Mt Cook but as we were only staying one night it didn't really matter. The location is great if you have a vehicle, a short distance off the main road in a lovely countrified setting. Just a short drive to Matheson Lake and the restaurant there where we had breakfast. Warm and friendly hostess who took time to point out local attractions on a map provided. Room was quite large and spotlessly clean. Little kitchenette was also spotless and meticulously organised. Inexpensive, great value hotel. Would not hesitate to recommend.

Room Tip: Request a room with a view of the mountains to get the best advantage of the beauty of this place.

We spent one night at the Mount Cook View Hotel. We found the accommodation very spacious, comfortable and clean. Our hosts were friendly and helpful. We were travelling with our two boys aged 11 and 13 who enjoyed the trampoline and kicking the footy around in the paddock. Whilst we hung clothes out on the line, we were visited by a mother duck and her 5 ducklings. The setting is peaceful and pristine. The mountains popped out from behind the clouds occasionally offering magnificent views. If you have a car the access to the glacier and Lake Matheson is good. If you are self catering and need to buy goods at the local convenience store be prepared for high prices. We would certainly stay again and next time for much longer!

The motel is about 2 kms off the main road and is set in a scenic spot with good mountain views and near the reflection lake. Unfortunately for us, it was raining and the clouds were quite low. So, we didn't get to see much.

However, the rooms were very tidy and well appointed. The units had very large spacious bathrooms. The living area also had a full kitchen.

The laundry room was a bit away from our units and it has coin washing machine and dryer. With only one pf each, you could be in a bit of que, depending how busy the place is.

The wi fi is free, although the signal from our units were very faint. We had to stand outside the units and point our devices in various directions:)

Room Tip: Ask for a room nearer to the reception area. That way, the laundry will be nearer and I assume that...

Gavin, owner of the motel, was reallu friendly and helpful to us. We only arrived at 8.30pm and he was willing to wait up for us and even went ahead to turn on the heaters in our room before we checked in.

Really clean and spacious with all the necessary kitchen appliances youll need to whip up a basic meal. Free wifi! But the wifi signal was a bit weak as we stayed in cabin 2. If youre driving, each cabin has its own lot right in front of the front door so no need to worry about lugging heavy bags to and fro.

Shower was awesome. Yes, realky particular about the hot showers. The water pressure was good, not those miserable small ones that many hostels have. Bathroom was really big and clean.

Located very close to Lake Matheson, it really is the closest motel, as it advertised.

Overall, awesome yet affordable. Would definitely recommend it to my friends.

P.S Theyve got a super adorable dog named Bubbles. Be sure to look out for it when checking in or out! :)

The owners are lovely people who make guests feel very welcome. We appreciated the free Wi-fi but had to sit outside our unit in the cold to use it - nice sunny afternoon so that didn't bother me too much. The unit was spacious for a family with a lovely outlook. Some of the dishes in the kitchen were a bit unclean (not washed properly by previous guests) but problem quickly solved by giving things a onceover before use.

The only negative that did annoy me was that the outside light was on until after midnight. It was right outside our door which was opaque glass with no curtain and the room was so bright I could not get to sleep. Not all rooms have a light right outside, it was just this particular room. It would be good if that light turned off by 10pm or if there was a wooden door instead of glass.

The heat lamp and fan in the bathroom did not work properly so it got dripping wet from the steam in there.

Overall, it was an OK place to stay for a night - I am happy to overlook the minor issues when I receive warm and friendly service which we most certainly did.

Our second visit here - this time, a last minute decision. Room was clean and warm. Owners friendly. Fresh milk was welcome. Plunger coffee provided. Only issue was outside light going on and off all night - not sure why. It shone through the back door and we couldn't block it out. Would stay there again.
