“Brilliant place!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2013

Great place! Paul and Pat were brilliant hosts. We enjoyed our stay and hired bikes to do the wineries which was by far the best way to do it in our opinion. We stayed in our camper but the rooms looked immaculate and the showers and toilets were clean. The tennis courts out the back were fun and all the wineries were friendly, accommodating and a lot were free to taste.

We spent two night here while exploring the Marlbourough wineries. We were actually staying in our van on site but we had full use of the hostel facilities. The hostel is the cleanest one I have ever stayed in and the size (20 beds) ensures that the kitchen etc is never crowded. The kitchen even had a garlic crusher, and an awesome BBQ on the back deck.

If you stay with them you can rent their bikes for just $15 each which come with panniers. The price also includes the host's excellent knowledge of the wineries in the region, how much tastings cost, where the free ones are, where to get cheap (but delicious) food. We followed their suggested trail and could not have had a more spectacular day. Thanks again!

My only suggestion would be to improve the campground area, maybe put it on grass or tarmac but maybe we're being picky!

This place has everything you'll need for a great few days in the area, even three tennis courts out back to use for free! If you're looking for somewhere in Marlbourough, don't hesitate, just book it!

Room Tip: The private doubles looked really gorgeous and a great price for the location and facilities on site...

Stayed at this great Backpackers while touring the Marlborough region of New Zealand. We were travelling in a campervan and there were facilities for powered sites for campers. We used the cooking facilities in the kitchen which was extremely well stocked with everything you would need, even a gas bbq. The bathrooms and toilets, in fact everything was spotlessly clean. We hired a couple of pushbikes to tour the vineyards for only $15 per person for the day (a discount as we were staying there). Mine hosts Pat and Paul were very helpful and friendly, we had a lovely time!

There were four of us staying here in two separate double rooms, all of us were absolutely satisfied with everything! The rooms are small but very clean and just perfect for really good prices. Common bathroom facilities and kitchen is great, nothing to complain about! There are also tennis courts with free equipment to use, boule to play or hammock for relaxing. We rented bicycles directly from the hostel to cycle around the vinyards for a day - amazing! The owners are just so cute and sweet, they took very well care of their guests. I can highly recommend it to anyone!

We have stayed at the Watson's Way Backpackers for two days during Dec 2012. Pat and Paul (the owners) were so lovely, we felt very welcome from the first minute. The kitchen facilities are absolutely fantastic, a lot of space and very clean and the room we stayed in was absolutely immaculate. Overall the hostel was one of the cleanest, most looked after and most relaxing place to be, so definitely one of the favourite places during our travels in New Zealand

This hostel was ideally placed for the Marlborough wine tastings, most within walking distance but you could also hire bikes from the hostel for longer trips. Our room was a double and quite small but cosy enough. The weather was dreadful one day so we borrowed some DVDs and settled in with our wine purchases! The kitchen was well equipped and we enjoyed up stay there.

Watson's way was definitely one of our favourite places to stay in NZ. The location is ideal for exploring the many nearby vineyards by bike and the owners throw in reduced bike hire to make this place a real bargain. Paul and Pat were so helpful throughout our short stay and even gave us a sweet for returning our key at check out! This was a welcome change to the places demanding a $30 key deposit on arrival and sums this place up. The kitchen and BBQ area are perfect for relaxing in whilst sampling some of the day's purchases. There is also a petanque set and neighbouring tennis courts that you can use for free. All in all a fantastic place to stay.
