Hillsfield House is a gem. It is situated perfectly, so we were able to ride our bikes to several wineries with ease and minimal exertion. The scenery around the property is spectacular. There are alpacas and miniature horses in an enclosed area on the property and they love the company of curious guests. Jo and Steve are great hosts. The room we stayed in (upstairs) was very cozy and comfortable. Free wi-fi was provided. Breakfasts are brought to the room each morning on a time decided on by the guest. There is a delicious assortment of breads, jams, fruits, cereal, juice and coffee.
Again, what amazing hosts. Jo even drove us to dinner one night and helped us rescue a bottle of wine we left in the cab later that evening.
We cannot say enough great things about our experience at Hillsfield House

Jo was very welcoming after we arrived late in the drizzle after a long drive from Nelson. Beautiful location amidst the olive trees, cute room and very comfortable. Breakfast was great even when we had to leave early in the morning from the airport - Jo came bearing a huge breakfast at 5am in the morning. Definitely a relaxing stay, Marlborough itself is beautiful and it was nice to come back to Hillsfield House. Cute Ilamas in the garden who would come up to the fence and kiss you on the cheeks! Great stay!

Are you looking for a relaxed stay in Marlborough with excellent service, in between the wineries, with bikes at your disposal and with a wonderful breakfast? We can't imagine a place in Marlborough with premium quality for an affordable budget. Jo and Steve give you the feeling of being very welcome and make sure you have a great time. Don't forget to say high to Twiggy, one of the alpacas. Besides, Jo and Steve are very helpful in telling you the wineries and restaurants you have to go to. Life is good at Hillsfield House!

We have a wonderful 2 day stay and enjoyed our host, Jo and Steve. We even had a ride in their ESSEX. Our room was so quiet that a major storm at night did not disturb us at all. We walked to three local wineries and visited many more. Our breakfast was a real treat each morning and Jo gave ideas of the better sights and excellent restaurants. We would not hesitate to recommend this GEM.

Room Tip: The lower garden room is quieter in a heavy storm.

We booked in for two nights here but had such a splendid time that we were tempted to come back for a second stay on our return journey - sadly the route didn't allow it. This is all you can really ask for in a B&B. The setting, the warmth, the local attractions and all of the personal touches. Thank you again!

We had read the reviews on Hillsfield House online and so were really looking forward to our stay, and it did not disappoint! We stayed for two nights as part of out honeymoon trip traveling around NZ in January. Jo had already been extremely helpful before we arrived over email offering advise on wine tours and places to visit. On arrival we were more than thrilled with our room - we had the courtyard and it is absolutely beautiful. The linen was crisp and white, the bed huge, big fluffy towels, the room itself thoughtfully decorated, it immediately felt like home and the garden and surroundings amazing.

It was a beautiful hot sunny day so we headed off to the closet winery in walking distance (though Jo did kindly offer use of bikes if we were really more energetic / adventurous.) I would definitely recommend a visit to Forrest Winery, we spent the afternoon in the beautiful gardens of the winery in the sun sampling the wine, nibbling on cheese and olives and playing with the winery puppy Roxy.

We then spent the rest of the afternoon in the gorgeous gardens at Hillsfield House watching the delightful miniature ponies and alpaca’s playing, before a very lazy night in our little studio - it was so nice why go out!! We actually ordered take away which was delivered and very shortly afterwards Jo popped over with cutlery, plates and napkins!

Breakfast at Hillsfield House is to die for - ordered the day before and delivered at the time you would like it, Jo popped over to lay the table first (!!!) We then sat by the window, with the sun shining in and were served the most delicious home made croissants, fresh tea / coffee, freshly squeezed juices and fresh fruit. It really was one of the loveliest breakfasts.

The weather being so beautiful the following day we decided to leave the wineries and head to the beach - Jo recommend a little local place - Whites Bay. Reviews online suggested it was difficult to get to but Jo assured us it was an easy ride, which it was, a little steep but nothing out of the ordinary for NZ and well worth it. Gorgeous beach, very quiet (even in the height of summer) well worth a visit if your in the area.

Jo and Steve were brilliant hosts - if we had a query or questions they were there but they let us get on and enjoy our time with them in peace. The accommodation is first rate, the breakfast amazing, I can’t recommend staying there enough, we wish we could have stayed longer!!
