“Eating and drinking on the slopes”
Reviewed July 22, 2014

Nice to have access to ameneties close to the slopes and the ordering of coffee etc. made very simple by a great device - a light up number so when our drinks etc. were ready this little device flashed so we could go and collect it. Very techno!

“Taking your kids up for a play in the snow?”
Reviewed July 20, 2014

You get directed into the carpark and then wait for a free shuttle bus to take you to the skifield reception area. If you dont want to ski you can get a lift pass to the highest cafe in NZ. Or if you want to take the kids for a play you can jump on the chairlift for free down to happy valley and hire a toboggan for $15 and or make snowmen. There was a lot of people their but it was the school holidays. We didnt ski so cant comment on hirage and the ski fields. Kids had fun and didnt cost much with awesome views.

“good boarding”
Reviewed July 20, 2014

visited at a time where snow was not too plentiful but the teams did a great job getting some runs open. The happy valley slope is great for beginners and even intermediates who wish to warm up. Rock garden was open but the rest were closed due to winds. For me, it was perfect so grab your board or skis and head to the hills

“First Day of Skiing Season”
Reviewed July 16, 2014

It was a shame as to how disorganised it was considering we all know that it snows from July to October every year. There was long delays with getting passes issued at Happy Valley. There were only 2 groups in front and it took 3/4 hour to be processed. The tables outside the cafe were all stacked up and not placed out ready for people to use. The ground for where the tables were to go had not been flattened so couldn't put out yourself. The cafe had food advertised on their blackboard but were not actually able to offer those only what was in the display cabinet (sandwiches, pies). The chairlift and the mat kept breaking down. Fortunately for us it was only 20 mins but the next day it was an hour. There is no excuse for not having everything ready to go for the skiing season when it happens at the same time every year and it being school holidays of course it is going to be busy!

“Busy during school holidays”
Reviewed July 14, 2014

Went down for the day to Happy Valley with a group of children. Unfortunately the weather wasn't the greatest; however after we found a good spot up on the hill, the children still had fun- snowball fights, sliding down hills etc. It was extremely busy with queues for everything. Impossible to find a seat or buy any food. Soooo many people attempting to ski, riding toboggans etc. Got hit from behind twice just trying to get from one side of the ski field to the other!
