Our second stay at the Skotel for a group of 18 and once again it was very enjoyable. The rooms were comfy and warm. The Terrace restaurant put out an awesome meal, the staff were great and all at a very reasonable price. As I said, we'll be back. Thanks, Scott.

We stayed in the budget room. It was clean, comfortable and had a wash basin in the room - showers were just down the hallway. Only downside was the very small electric heater which had seen better days.

The staff were very friendly and helpful and although we didn't get to ski due to poor weather.

Lovely view and warm upon arrival which was GREAT on a cold day BUT one of the rings on the cook top was broken, the shower curtain rail was lets just say not horizontal. The charge to my credit card upon departure was incorrect and the decor for the cabins was below standard, it makes the Chateau look 7 star and there isn't a great difference in price for the basic room. However I haven't had the opportunity to use Skotel's facilities as yet, the menu for the bar/restaurant seemed overpriced for the surroundings when compared to Tussocks Bar a short distance away.

hotel is well situated close to everything.... bed bugs galore .... my entire face is full of bites, its been a week and its so bad that i cant go out in public. the hotel apologized but said that it occurs there once every couple of months... absolutely disgusting. I ve stayed in many backpacker type places all over the world and have never had this problem before. Enough Said

Nestled high amongst the heather and (at the time) snow of National Park, the Skotel offers a unique opportunity for people wishing to experience the stark beauty of the New Zealand alpine environment.

My partner and I recently stayed at the Skotel for four nights, and we loved every day. We arrived well after dark, and were looked after by friendly and professional staff. Fortunately the restaurant was still open, and the meal we had was excellent. We were both suprised at the high quality and the value of the wine list. After dinner, we enjoyed meeting other guests, while relaxing by the log burner in the lounge bar.

In the morning, we woke up to clear skies and a panoramic view of fresh snow blanketing the plains, which was an indicator that good skiing conditions were close to hand! It was great to be able to hire gear from Edge2Edge, which is housed on site. The snow shuttles came straight to the door and the experienced drivers inspired confidence in the challenging conditions.

We were lucky enough to be able to ski the whole time we were there, but had the weather closed in, it looked like we would have had no trouble finding other things to do in the area.

We really enjoyed our winter mountain trip, and I would highly recommend the Skotel.

We enjoyed our stay at the Skotel as I was with 2 daughters & 5 grandsons. We had a family room & superior room. good size rooms the family room had a bunk room, great for 4 little boys. We had a fridge & tea & coffee in the room, were able to use the backpackers kitchen & also had a nice meal in the restaurant. The children enjoyed the games room & the spa pool.
The staff were very helpful, I would definitely stay there again.

The staff and manager at the hotel were more than helpful, especially with young kids in tow. The place has a very warm homely feeling and the dinners we very good with lovely fresh vegetables/salads. They even had kids board games you could borrow from reception which was great. I would definately stay there again with my family.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Skotel was established in the early 60s by a group of keen skiers who wanted the convenience of accommodation close to the ski-fields but more comfort than the ski lodges of that time. In 1986 it underwent a major expansion with the addition of restaurant, bar and other facilities. The old part of the building became the backpacker’s wing. Skotel has maintained its friendly informal atmosphere but now provides Qualmark three star accommodation and the exciting cuisine experiences of our new dinner menu. ... more   less
