Had spent a busy morning at Matakana Village and our list of good wineries with food pointed us in the directions of the Ransom Winery.

It was very busy but a very pleasant lady managed to find some chairs and table and set us up with a lovely view out to the vines and beyond, a spectacular scene!
We were given a most interesting story about the development of Ransom wines and proceeded to choose 5 glasses as well as a platter which included a great variety of meats, cheeses, peppers, olives, chutneys and dips and well presented.

We enjoyed our lunch and if you are on the Matakana Wine Trail be sure to call in here.

We went here for our first visit to enjoy a platter and wine with our grabone voucher and were really impressed with the ambience and service. The day we went with our two boys 10 and 12 years old, was a perfect, still and sunny afternoon so we sat in the garden area facing the vineyards out the back. The service was great, and our platter was really lovely with lots of local produce, and lovely breads - very generous amounts. The boys and a kids platter, and we had a small cake/slice platter as well to finish off. The children had space to run and play out of the way of diners, and we loved the architecture of the building too. The wine tasting was fun and interesting, and we ended up buying cases of their pinot gris which was on a fantastic special at the time, and a really good wine.

We had a slightly rocky start to our Ransom experience with an email booking not being acknowledged and somewhat snippy service on the phone when I rang to reconfirm, however that was quickly forgotten once we arrived for lunch. We enjoyed the wine tasting and bought wines as a result. The nicely presented platter that we shared between two adults wasn't huge but certainly tasty with a good selection of food we assumed to be made on the premises. The cheese portions were a bit miserable for a platter designed to be shared as was the lone half fresh walnut. (seriously? HALF a walnut on a platter for 2 people!?) The wine is good, the fire was going so it was cosy, it was busy so a bit noisy but a nice atmosphere created with a room full of happy patrons. We enjoyed it enough to cast minor annoyances aside and plan on returning sometime soon.

What better way to spend a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon than at Ranson Winery. I have been many times and keep going back - it has something very special. The wine tasting is a great experience and the platters are amazing, haven't seen anything to equal elsewhere. The staff are very friendly and efficient. It was a very relazing lunch, looking out at the vines with brilliant sunshine, enjoying lovely wines and great food. Highly recommended.

We had booked to go at Easter but it was cancelled because of storm damage but went about a week later. Most of the staff were very friendly and helpful. The platters had an amazing array of food and were plentiful. The platters for the children were equally plentiful and they enjoyed having there own.
