Went on the Ecological walk which was wonderful. Especially enjoyed the bush section where I saw or heard the following birds; tui, wood pigeon, fantail, robin, kaka, grey warbler, cuckoo,.

Tawharanui Sanctuary is right on the doorstep of New Zealand's Largest city - Auckland. This working farm is home to some of the endangered native birds of New Zealand.
Surrounded by fabulous beaches and interesting bush walks it has scenery that could compete with the best in the world and it is all free!

I and my family visited there 1 hour national highway and 30 minutes gravel road. At the gateway entrance of park, we were confused because there was not good scene than I think. But, when we entered park, and arrived beach, we were happy with cool wind, beautiful scene. Many people enjoyed sea with surfing, swimming, sun-tanning. Very beautiful place to rest.

We were in the spring at this park. So it was very quit. It offers a lot of walks, very easy to make. Also walking along the Oceanside is very nice.

If you have a motor home or tents, (though you will need to have a car) this is a lovely Auckland Council park for camping. It is very heavily booked in January and at weekends but at other times it is more available. Excellent surf beach if surf up, predator free peninsula, kiwi birds released here though hard to see and lovely bush walks. See Auckland Council website Parks for booking arrangements. Water and toilets available but no stores at all. Shop in Warkworth at supermarket for camping.
