Anchor Bay is a beautiful little cove with great kids beach and caves to explore. A simply stunning and very special part of the world.

“things to do in Auckland”
Reviewed November 24, 2012

er the picture is not of Tawharanui but is Waitakere regional park! not to worry they are both great destinations for different reasons, both need you own transport though. Waitakere is full of walks in the bush long and short and good place to see Kauri trees, or go for a tram ride. it also has the great wild west beaches with big dangerous surf!
Tawharanui has a great wee beach and gentle surf great for kids and learners, nice walks too, worth the effort to go on a sunny day.

“Picture does not match”
Reviewed November 3, 2012

This is a nice place, well looked after easy drive, need a car. The picture here is of Arataki not Tawharanui? It is well worth the drive it is how clean New Zealand is....take a picnic lunch with you.

“Fantastic beautiful nature reserve”
Reviewed November 1, 2012

Tawharanui has it all, beautiful parkland, stunning beaches, an ecology trail through beautiful native New Zealand bush - and it is a nature reserve, predator proof so the native birds are easy to see and enjoy: Tui, Bellbird, native pigeon, Kaka, Saddleback, Dotteril, Oyster Catcher, Fantail and many more. It is also a marine reserve so the snorkeling around the rocky points is superb, starting to rival Goat Island marine reserve. And you can book in and camp there too!

“Camping”
Reviewed September 22, 2012

Has to be one of the most beautiful places to visit/stay. Anchor Bay is a very special place. The camping is long drop style if you don't mind that kind of thing. The camping ground is set directly behind the beach/behind dunes, so you're protected from easterly winds. There are fresh water taps available (fine for drinking). There are magnificent walks around the penninsula (short or long). Surfing and swimming is wonderful. Not to mention that the Regional Park has been protected with a preditor fence, to keep out stoats, rats, cats etc... and part of the coast is a marine sanctuary. Love it!
