“Camping”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 22, 2012

Has to be one of the most beautiful places to visit/stay. Anchor Bay is a very special place. The camping is long drop style if you don't mind that kind of thing. The camping ground is set directly behind the beach/behind dunes, so you're protected from easterly winds. There are fresh water taps available (fine for drinking). There are magnificent walks around the penninsula (short or long). Surfing and swimming is wonderful. Not to mention that the Regional Park has been protected with a preditor fence, to keep out stoats, rats, cats etc... and part of the coast is a marine sanctuary. Love it!

“A special place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 11, 2012

Although the picture provided by trip advisor is actually, part of the Waitakere Ranges in West Auckland, (Arataki info centre) and is also a great place to visit on the way out to Piha beach. Tawharanui north of Auckland is a Natural and Marine Resrve that has been kept in prestine condition by the Auckland Regional Council ( who has just recently become Auckland Council) cant take the gloss away from the hard work and condition that the ARC has done over the years. You will not be dissappointed making the 45 minute journey north to a fantastic natural rural setting, she has protective fencing around her to keep out the unwanted stotes, cats, any sort of animal that would threaten the native animals living inside this beautifully kept reserve. there are no rubbish bins in this area, this is to encourage people to take their rubbish with them when they leave, Please, leave nothing but footprints, laughs and fond memories of a truly beautiful reserve, we kiwis are all very proud with the, preserve our reserves. enjoy a fantastic day or days, camping grounds are available ( google tawharanui camp grounds). drive through to the automated gates once you come off the dirt road and down the hill, please no pets allowed, follow the dirt road, you will see the entrance to the camp grounds on your left and continue a few more minutes to a piece of paradise, walk the tracks over the lush farmlands and enjoy the views.

“Great Day Trip”

Amazing beach and it's out of the way - no houses - great walks over the farm land and around the beaches. So clean and pure. Only a short drive from central Auckland 90 minutes.
