Description: A comfortable two-hour drive from Auckland City, The Old Mill Cafe resides opposite Tairua Marina overlooking picturesque Tairua Harbour. Nestled quietly at the base of Paku Hill. Great spot to come for fabulous breakfasts made with free-range eggs and free farmed bacon. A wide variety of options for lunch ranging from Fresh Coromandel Mussels to freshly caught fish and chips and epic beef pies for the meat lovers out there. We use fresh produce and focus on fresh seafood but we cater to all diets including Gluten free, Vegetarian and Vegan. We have a wide range of yummy cakes, quiches and pies to accompany your coffee by Allpress. And cocktails & platters are available from 3pm to 6pm just in time for sunset over Tairua Harbour. And to finish off try a Kapiti ice cream served in a cone. Our menu is seasonal. We are fully licensed and carry a discerning range of local, NZ and overseas wines, beers and ciders. Make sure you check out our international deli and fresh french artisan breads. Every Sunday we have live music!

Good company, good food and relaxing surroundings. Our server was attentive and helpful and the meals came in a timely manner. Really enjoyed our evening.

“Poor Service”
Reviewed January 4, 2013

Went for lunch. Took 45 minutes to get a simple lunch. Food and coffee was very average, even though there was only three couples in the cafe.

“Normally good but this time disappointing to say the least”
Reviewed January 2, 2013

We normally love going to The Old Mill Cafe but this time we were so disappointed. It took 20 mins for our coffee to arrive. 50 mins for our breakfast to arrive. The breakfast are Ponsonby prices (actually more) and the food not up to scratch. The poached eggs were hard, the presentation not flash at all. Sure it's busy season but when we arrived there were only 4 groups even though they said the food was late in coming out as they were so busy. We weren't the only people disappointed, when we left another table was also mumbling ' what this is it? For that price'. Guys you need to lift your game. It's a great location and the cafe across the road has closed down so it's there or tairua village. If you do go I suggest do the coffee and cabinet food. If you need to use the kitchen then I suggest you go fishing in between.

“Yummy!!!!!!!”
Reviewed December 15, 2012

Situated on the Tairua Harbour at the foot of Paku Hill. This building used to be an old sawmill, hence the name. They serve the most yummy Kapiti ice cream. But the best sensation is their meals. We had entree, mains and one dessert. One entree was scallops and the other 1kg of mussels shared between two. Fresh market fish and fish and chips, curry prawns and a rissotto. All meals were prepared and presented prefectly. No negatives at all!! The staff were very pleasant and knew the menu well when asked questions. The main seating area surrounds the building on an old fashioned verranda.

“Lovely restuarant / coffee shop”
Reviewed December 15, 2012

Off the main road towards Mount Paku. If you need directions call into
the information centre on the mai street. Its a short drive but well worth it.
Great tea and coffee, excellent breakfast , snacks and cakes. Lovely
place to stop.
We took some quiche away with us for a picnic and it was great.
Lovely views and friendly service.
