“Good Manukau Location”
Reviewed February 10, 2014

This place is easily accessible from Highway 1 both north and south. Entrance into the premises is a bit of a trick as you have to cut across on-coming traffic and drive up a steep incline. It is close enough that you can walk (15-20 minutes) to the bus and train terminals at Manukau City Central and it is also within easy driving of the airport. Upon checking in the lady on reception dealt with our booking very effectively and she was also very helpful with local information (management at other motels we'd stayed at on our 9 day visit were not so informed). Upon entering the room we noted that the kitchenette and bedroom were all clean and fresh smelling. The kitchenette was adequately self-contained with enough cooking facilities to prepare basic meals. The beds had fresh clean sheets on comfortable mattresses. The bathroom was a bit dated but was fresh and clean. We had a ground floor room and there was a bit of foot traffic noise from the room above but this didn't impact on us too seriously. The cleaning staff were friendly and left clean bath towels each day. There was free Wi-Fi which was a bonus as other motels wanted to charge quite highly for this. There is adequate on-site car parking. Even though the motel is close to the highway and also on a major road there was no obvious traffic noise. Like-wise there was no aircraft noise even though the motel is close to the airport. It suited our purpose and offered value for money.

Room Tip: Inspect the room before deciding whether to stay.

We needed just one night's accommodation in the Manukau area, and booked Manukau Heights Motor Lodge on the premise that my husband stayed here 15 years ago and found it good. 15 years later, nothing has changed - literally..... Very basic accommodation, tired, old, but most, disappointing, dirty. The toilet had stains, the white toilet brush was a grey/black colour, there were urine stains on the wall, hair on the toilet seat, a noticeable amount of dust on all the skirting baords.....the bathroom basically need a good scrub top to bottom (so to speak). To top it all, there was one tiny cake of soap which we had to share between the shower and the basin, and we don't know, but the shampoo toiletries seem to have been filled with some watery soapy subtance. The furniture in the room was worn, the window white wooden window sills were flaking paint, the curtains were coming off the rails. The bed was clean and sheets were clean - thank goodness, or else we would have left and had been late to the wedding we were going to. The Asian owners seem very friendly, but I just can't understand how they could charge for rooms that are so sub-standard. I know that $150 is not the top end of accommodation costs, but this establishment needs to improve. Would not recommend.

One night stop after picking children up from international flight. Rooms clean and tidy although a little small. For 4 people just one small cake of soap, time motels all provided shower gel dispensers! Upstairs bedroom very hot on arrival but cooled in the evening. Would be unbearable in summer. Main detraction was the noise particularly from the flights coming in during the night. They come in almost above Redoubt Road. New owners very friendly but as only one night not sure about overall service.

This is very basic accomodation at a not so basic price. We got one small cake of soap to be used wherever required. We had to phone reception to get a spare blanket as it was very cold, why it wasn't already in the room is unknown. They said that we can come and get a blanket if we wish, at 11.30pm! They eventually agreed to bring the blanket to us. One side of the bed the electric blanket wasn't working and the heater was either on or off, no trying to get a medium heat.
We were dissapointed and won't be going back. The units are tired inside and out and require renovating, as do the grounds require a bit of TLC
Great location and has the potential to be ideall

Room Tip: Sorry but we only stayed one night

my partner and i were on a trip from North to just spend a day in Auckland and we were not planning to stay the night. But it was too late to drive hence we booked a room in Manukau Heights Motor Lodge. Within short notice we were given a room and the service was excellent, everyone working at the motel were friendly and helpful. i will recommend this lodge to anyone wishing for a stay in Maukau, and i would definitly book in this lodge in future time.

This accommodation is probably best suited for short stays. It is a ten minute walk to the pick-up point for the Airport Shuttle and nearest shopping mall. My husband and I stayed overnight before flying out of Auckland at the end of our trip.

It was basic, with a TV, kettle, fridge and coffee/tea making facilities. Hairdryers are available on request. Wifi is available but with added charge. We noted that the bathroom and shower area were wheelchair-friendly. One of the down-sides of the place is that the light switch for the bathroom and main room are connected, so it is not possible to switch on the lights to use the bathroom without brightening the entire room--this is not ideal for using the bathroom at night. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this to anyone looking for anything more than just basic accommodation.

Lucky I was only staying for 1 night. Heater down stairs didn't go, tv reception rubbish on both tvs, poor for this day of digital tv transmission, electric blanket didn't work, lack of extra bedding for the bed. Other than that the room was not too bad. The reception staff were friendly and had been upgraded to a bigger room. Is on a very busy road and is not double glazed so is very noisy.
