“driving on sand”
Reviewed March 19, 2014

the locals warn you a lot and there are dangers, but if you know what you are doing, it's so much fun. I enjoyed driving on the beach, always seeing the ocean and stopping whenever you feel like, watching the locals fish. So yeah, you can do it, even if you are a single female tourist traveling in a 2WD :D

“Big Sand....”
Reviewed March 18, 2014

We drove ourselves here from Paihia and it took about 3 hours. The beach reminded me of my days at my grandparents home in Ocean Shores Washington...a very large and broad expanse of sand that you can drive on if you are careful (there are plenty of warning signs). If driving on the beach is not your cup of tea there is a parking lot you can use before hitting the sand. We walked the beach for a mile or so and only saw several people along the way...it was a nice visit but if I was to do it again I would definitely take one of the coach tours that travels the beach and up to the Cape.

“A Must Do”
Reviewed March 13, 2014

We booked a tour with Harrisons Cape Runner up 90 Mile Beach to Cape Rianga. We were picked up from our motel in Kaitia and had a fantastic day out with lunch provided. The bus driver was excellent value - very informative and full of entertaining stories and jokes. Lots of stops for photos, sand surfing, at little beaches and bays, and at a great ice cream shop on the way back to Kaitia. Perfect trip at a great price.

“A must for tourists”
Reviewed March 10, 2014

Take a Harrison's coach for the wonderful value price of NZ$50 for an unforgettable day out - lunch is included and they pick up from local motels. There is a car park at their easy to find offices if you can't get picked up

“Petricevich Dune Rider”
Reviewed March 1, 2014

Due to the small number of people on our week day Dune Rider tour, after heading down the Te Paki stream for some sand surfing, we were able to travel all the way south along beach to Ahipara.
