“Great location in an unspoilt part of NZ”
Reviewed January 10, 2012

Stayed in a Self contained 3brm Villa overlooking the Golf Course for 1 night. Curious setup with the Hotel facilities a small distance away requiring a short car ride to access. Old fashioned TV and no TV at all in the main bedroom. Otherwise all good but probably a bit expensive. The staff try hard, but because of the location, it must be hard to attract experienced people.

My wife and I stayed at the resort for three nights; it was a nice setting with fantastic views. The staff was so welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The food was lovely but the menu was limited. If you are a business man and need to keep in touch with the world the internet service was poor. That said it was great experience and would recommend as quality place to stay to explore the northern region.

We took the opportunity to escape to Carrington Resort. What a great choice this was. We arrived very late past midnight and the staff were there quickly and showed us to our room.

In the morning the scenery was breathtaking. What a location. Beach nearby, and a stunning Golf Course in front of us.

Played and had a great round wife enjoyed the cart so much it was hard to get her away from it.

Thge food in the evening was good but the atmosphere and scenery with the company made up for this.

If we get another opportunity we will definatetly be back.

Room Tip: Call ahead and confirm reservations. Ask to be on the same floor as the restaurant. Playing Golf...

Even in the pouring rain you could see how beautiful the view would be from Carrington on a good day: the lodge looks out to the sand dunes, inlet and white sands of Karikari beach and I imagine the walk to the beach would be fantastic. Our lodge room was large, comfortable ad well appointed if a bit soul-less. Staff pleasant and friendly. Shame about the food at the restaurant though. We went partly because we'd heard it had an interesting chef and refreshing menu and we wanted to go somewhere where we didn't have to drive out for dinner, so were disappointed by a limited menu and only average food. Overall it was quite expensive for what you get but if the restaurant upped its game it would be worth it as the Karikari peninsula is pretty special.

We enjoyed two nights here and two rounds of golf. The course is in superb condition. The restaurant meals were outstanding - the tenderest aged beef ever eaten. It was a wonderful touch to meet the chef and to talk to him at length. Service overall was top notch - lovely staff. The rooms in the lodge are generous in size and we had superb views from room 3. If there is any (small) criticism to be made it would be the size of the old fashioned CRT TV. For a resort of this nature a 42" plasma would be the norm. That said, we will certainly be back and would highly recommend the property.
Reading some of the other reviews it is amazing to hear criticisms of the remoteness of this property to shops, etc. That after all is the point!

Our group thoroughly enjoyed our two days at Carrington Resort. As a keen golfer, I was in heaven. The course is very well presented and is a great challenge. I was pleasantly surprised by the seclusion and tranquility. This is a place that would never seem busy even if it was full.

This is the paragraph where people normally add in a negative...but I won't because that would be nitpicking!

It's a great place.
