Wayfarer Motel
Ranked #3 of 10 Kaitaia B&B and Inns
Reviewed March 13, 2014

We stayed for three nights at the Wayfarer Motel and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. Rose was very welcoming and was a great help with suggestions about places to go to eat, to see, and things to do. The tour to Cape Rianga up 90 Mile Beach that Rose booked for us was a highlight of our trip. The room was comfortable and clean with everything we needed for our stay.

We booked at very short notice for a one night stay and were accommodated with no hassle. We found our unit to be spacious and very clean. The kitchen was well equipped and the beds were comfortable. The trampoline and basket ball hoop were a big hit with our 8 year old. The service was friendly and welcoming. We'd stay again.

Well located on the main highway, clean room, and spacious .
The room rate was ok at $125 but the continental breakfast was another $20 for two and the wifi was extra so in total the room wasn't that cheap!

Thank you so much Dave and Rose for your support and very friendly welcome - your facilities were really comfortable and clean and so handy to shops and restaurants. I would not hesitate to stay there again - you are both amazing hosts, you made our stay there most relaxing and there was always a smile to greet us daily - thank you so much - we had a blast!!!

Room Tip: any room in this motel would be beneficial

We had a pleasant enough stay but it is very dated and slightly overpriced in this day and age of grab a deal. The beds were very uncomfortable and hard and the neighbours in the lodge next door were very noisy one night. It was pleasant enough but a lot could be done to improve it and there is little choice at the moment in Kaitaia.

Room Tip: Don't get a room down the back near the lodge

Kaitaia is what it is. You are out in the boonies if you are headed up to Cape Reinga. But it is good to know what to expect. The hotel is older & dated but it is clean & tidy & that is the main thing. It costs more than a similar hotel in the US but that's all I have to compare it to. We arrived about 8:15 at night & the lady was not too happy about that. She was much more pleasant in the morning.

We paid $129 for a studio unit and expected something a little better than what we got. The motel was clean and tidy but dated. We stayed one night only and it was adequate for what we required however we would normally expect to pay no more than $100 for something like this. Very friendly welcome and reception.
