“Sit back relax and enjoy an excellent excursion ”
Reviewed January 7, 2014 via mobile

Worth repeating what many have stated. The best value excursion we have taken! In checking out 90 Mile Beach excursions this was by far the least expensive at $50NZ per person. It made us second guess what we would actually get but Trip Advisor reviews convinced us. It was a great decision.

Jason was an excellent tour guide! Professional yet very personable. Informative with loads of local knowledge. Certainly not dry commentary you get on many bus tours. You could certainly tell he loved his homeland.

Comments on the lunch are basically warranted. That is why we bought ahead and took our own snacks. This is an area that could be improved.

We took one of the last tours on an older bus. Jason proudly showed us a new purpose built ( by Jason/Harrison's ) new bus. Looked like a big step up in comfort.

Amazing scenery, fun activities, professional service. We highly recommend Harrison's.

“You don't need a tour if you have your own car.”
Reviewed January 2, 2014

We have our own cars but the main reason we first considered this tour was the risk of driving normal cars on sand. We thought the entire northern part of Northland is not accessible by road and only on sand.

The only highlight of the tour was in Cape Reinga and the sand dune which could be accessed by roads on the eastern side of Northland...we could have driven there on our own.

The drive on 90 miles beach was not exciting...I almost felt asleep looking at the dull color beach with a gloomy sky.

It's a waste of time stopping at the coffee place...twice!!! Once at the beginning and once at the end of the trip. And a waste of time stopping at a tiny convenience shop and everybody rush out to get tip top ice cream...

We only had half an hour on the sand dune...I could have spend hours exploring the sand dune if we had driven there on our own.

The driver did a good job explaining the local history while driving though.....

Would not recommend this or any other tour to cape reinga if you have your own car.

“Super day super value”
Reviewed January 1, 2014

The day was full but you didn't feel rushed and the driver made the day relaxing and fun. Even enjoyed his bad jokes. This was the best way to see the cape and the sand dunes.

“Great value except the lunch meal”
Reviewed January 1, 2014

The many good reviews of this company are accurate, so I would not repeat the details. It is a great value at $50. However, the lunch could be improved upon. I understand that most of the bus companies pack a picnic lunch to be consumed at Tapotupotu Bay, but wrapped cheese slices and dry bread along with some type of kool-aid drink is not my idea of a meal. At the Kauri Ancient Kingdom stop earlier in the morning, decent sandwiches were selling for around $4. If I had known, I would have bought one or two to take along. But that does not take away from the professionalism and knowledge of the driver, and the great time we had. One may say - what can you expect for $50? I would have preferred that no meal be offered and we be allowed to bring/purchase our own, instead of the promise of "lunch included." I would have gladly still paid $50. The trip was worth it. By the way, the driver made an unscheduled stop to allow passengers to purchase road-side-stall avocadoes. That was lovely.

“Unbelievable value”
Reviewed December 11, 2013

The Harrisons Cape Runner Tour is the best value for money tour we have had anywhere in our travels. A full day leaving 9.00 am and returning 4.30 pm for NZ $50.00 including lunch. The trip included 90 mile beach (which is not 90 miles luckily) and the sand dunes which we could not have traveled in our rent a car. Highlight was Cape Reinga with the spectacular views.

The only suggestion is less time at Ancient Kauri Kingdom
