Beautiful hike down to cathedral cove and beaches. Well signed with time estimates between points. Try one of the other posted side trails for more solitude as most of the foot traffic is heading to/from cathedral cove. I was able to sit on a rock and peacefully stare out to sea for good while until another group of tourists made their way down. I don’t remember the name of the particular beach but it was a ways from cathedral cove on one of the marked trails. It might be possible to have a similar experience at cathedral cove later in the day but it was pretty steady with tourists until early evening. You may have to park at a lot in town rather the one at the trail head in spring and summer.

It's worth it. The walk from the lookout to the beach is beautiful, but not easy if overweight and unfit. There are reasonably steep sections both up and down. The carpark at the lookout is only open during winter. All other times park in the other carpark (well signposted) and you can either get the shuttle bus from there (near the entrance gate) or walk a bit (nice), up to the shops and get the shuttle from the bus stop. Any of the people in the shops will be able to point you in the right direction. There is a loo down at the beach. Ultimately I think it's worth it.

We drove all the way in to a look out to see this breath taking Cove but the secret to landing on the beach where you can walk under it - is to Kayak there. Loved it - it represents that instal-worthy photo of any visit to the Coromandel

A great short walk to a beautiful location. The shuttle bus service works well, dropping you to the top of the lookout and picking up afterwards.

My family and I are currently travelling in a campervan around NZ and were staying nearby in Coromandel (approx a 10 minute drive).
Warning - no parking available for campervans at the pay-for-use car park closet to the Cathedral Cove walkway.
Plenty of local residents offer parking in their yards for $10, but none were suitable for the van.
There's a shuttle service available in the summer months ($5 per person) from a large carpark about half way between Coromandel and Cathedral Cove.
Allow 45 minutes to an hour each way for the walk (depending on your level of fitness).
Amazing views during the walk and also at the bottom.
Please note - there are toilets at the bottom of the walkway.
Recommend it
