“a must see for sure”
Reviewed February 11, 2013

Well it's a must see for sure... which also means a lot of people. It is cool and relaxing just being out there. We traveled to it by kayak which I think is the best way to get there. Try to go early in the morning and hopefully you will beat the tourist rush. Also I suggest doing the Cathedral Cove Kayak Tours. Very informative, safe, and they really do make an amazing fancy coffee drink while you visit Cathedral Cove!

“very photogenic place after a nice walk”
Reviewed February 11, 2013

After walking for about 35 minutes we reached the Cathedral Cove Bay which turned out to be a nice beach, with lots of nice spots and amazingly formed rocks.

“It really is worth the walk”
Reviewed February 10, 2013

The walk to the Cove should take no more than 40 mins although leave a little more time on the return (you'll understand why when you get there). We visited it on a week day in February but it was still quite busy (peak season weekends would probably be difficult because of the limited parking alone)

Take your time and almost any body can walk the path and steps to the Cove. The sea arch is quite special and the stack beyond shows quite deep solution notches which would fascinate any physical geographer. The beach of almost pure white sand makes it ideal for youngsters but make certain you take hats and your factor 50.

“Possibly the best sea water in NZ”
Reviewed February 10, 2013

Before I went to Cathedral Cove, I spent sometime in Waiheke and Takapuna. Beautiful places, but still, I think Cathedral Cove has the best and clearest sea water in NZ. However, if you're looking to snorkel, you'd better head down to Gemstone instead of Cathedral Cove because there's nothing in the water here. The waves, beaches and rocks are very incredible.
It takes almost an hour to walk to Cathedral Cove from the parking lot, and of course, another hour to walk back. So if you want to spend some quality time down there, you'd better start early!

“Great walk, beautiful bay”
Reviewed February 6, 2013

We started about 8.30am, so not too early, as our priority on this holiday is relaxation. This is not our first time to Cathedral Cove so we know the reward for the effort at the other end is worth it. It's something you just have to do when you visit this part of NZ. Today, we didn't idle for too long, had a bit of a rest on a rock on the other side of the cave, took a few photo's and headed back. We got back to the carpark at about 10.30 which was full, with cars and campervans driving around waiting for someone to leave. There is no parking on either side of the road up, so if you are self driving and miss out on a carpark at the entrance, your option is to walk the 45mins up from the Hahei Beach car park. A much bigger committment in time and energy.
