“Stunning part of NZ”
Reviewed December 3, 2012

It's well worth the 30 minute walk to Cathedral Cove although it wouldn't suit people who are unsteady on their feet, can't cope with stairs or who obviously can't walk long distances. For everyone else though it's a must. The walk is a bit uneven in places but it seems to pass by pretty quickly and certainly didn't feel like a 30 minute walk. There are a whole heap of steps leading down to the beach (I think I counted over 100?) On a fine day the view at Cathedral Cove is just beautiful, a pretty little beach, stunning view out to sea and the impressive 'cathedral'. It was high tide when we went so we couldn't get around to the little beach on the other side of the cathedral but the main beach is just gorgeous.

Having seen this on brochures and in a movie I did not expect to be so awestruck. Great walk to view one of natures wonders.

“A pretty walk”
Reviewed December 1, 2012

A pretty walk with stunning views of coastal coves, paths through temperate tropical vegetation to Cathedral Cove and it's natural arch formation.

“Kayak -Wonderful experience”
Reviewed November 30, 2012

We Kayaked to Cathedral Cove with Cathedral Cove Kayakers....excellent time!! You do have to do a little work, but all in all it wasn't too bad. Great way to get there as opposed to hiking up. The guide we had, Tyrell, was wonderful. Told some stories and even fixed us a hot drink upon arriving at Cathedral Cove beach. You also get to kayak through a cove with some stingrays and kayak around some islands a little further out. The beach here is really pretty!

“It's a STEEP hike, but the views at the bottom are worth it”
Reviewed November 16, 2012

The walk is about 45 minutes each way and starts at the top of a mountain. You walk through one of my favorite things in NZ, which is their cool tree fern forests. At the bottom there is a beach, the famous Cathedral Cove rock formation, a waterfall, and public bathrooms. I was there at the end of winter, so I didn't see kayaks, but I did see boat ramps that looked like they were used for kayak rentals. Make sure you look up tide times for your trip to ensure the tide is low enough to walk through the Cove when you get down there!
