Pleasant staff, gorgeous grounds, so clean and quiet. Pub and cafe 2 mins away..... Loved our break and will definitely return there again. Hahei beach was great -we went for a winter retreat. Enjoyed the Macadamia plantation, hot water beach, and the wineries over by cooks beach, an easy drive

Room Tip: Loved the Cottage!

Cosy, clean, nice for backpackers or couples... Very well located, near Cathedral Cove, Hot Water Beach, and Whitianga. Because it was raining so much, we stayed longer than planned in the lounge, but we still had a good time !

Tatahi lodge is probably the best hostel I've stayed in all trip!! The location is perfect for local sightseeing and because it is small in size you're pretty much guaranteed to find day out buddies to join you! The beds are the comfiest I've had if a little high on top bunks and the fact that everyone's dorm doors were left open in the day speaks volumes for the security and trust amongst fellow backpackers here. Don't miss a stay at this place on your NZ trip cause it's fab!!!

Of the several backpackers we stayed in during our New Zealand trip, this was by far the best. Arrived after hours but were still warmly welcomed and given advice on where to eat. We stayed in a private double room with shared bathroom facilities. We were delighted with our room, nicely furnished and a very comfortable bed. The bathroom and toilets were clean and the kitchen was modern and well equipped. Wifi was available but at a charge and had to drive a fair way to find something open at 7pm on a Thursday evening. Aside from this, highly recommended for anyone visiting the Coromandel.

We booked a 4 person bunk room in the backpackers section of Tatahi Lodge for two nights. Upon arrival, we were quickly upgraded to two private rooms which we really appreciated. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and beautifully constructed of timber. A bathroom and toilet were shared among the three private rooms. Towels were provided as well as a portable heater since it was very cold at night. What made our stay really special was the garden-like setting of the property which accentuates the beauty and relaxing quality of this place. Picnic tables and adirondack chairs were strategically located for those who want to have their meals outside or to simply unwind and admire the view.

The backpackers lodge had a good-sized kitchen facility for preparing meals. We used the BBQ grill every night for our steak dinner. There was also a flat screen TV in the lounge plus coin operated PC for internet access. There was no free wifi available. The only negative point in our stay there was the poor sound insulation of the rooms. We could hear everything that was going on in the lounge and in the other rooms. If you are a light sleeper, this could be an issue.

Tatahi Lodge provided beach towels and spades for our trip to Hot Water Beach. I also borrowed a bike for free which I used to explore the quaint town of Hahei. It only took us a few minutes walk from the property to reach Hahei beach.

We rented a garden cottage for a one-night stay. We were impressed with how clean the cottage was and the beds were very comfy. Because we had an early morning kayak tour, we called and asked for a late check-out of 1 pm. The manager said that he couldn't accommodate our request, which we understood, but he offered for us to use the backpacker's showers after our morning of kayaking. We thought this was a very kind and gracious offer. We left our kayak tour (instead of using their facilities) and returned for the promised access to the showers. Only, now the clerk mentioned that he wanted a fee, in cash only, of course! Low on New Zealand cash, we asked to use our credit card, but that was not an option either. We traveled for 2 1/2 weeks in New Zealand and encountered the nicest, friendliest people we've ever experienced while traveling abroad. This is the only negative experience we had during our travels in New Zealand. Had the clerk mentioned the fee upfront, we wouldn't have later felt like he was taking advantage of us.

Room Tip: Dinner options in the winter are very limited. We arrived at 6:30 pm and couldn't find any resta...

Thank you Amy for your feedback. We wish to apologise for your unsatisfactory experience with respect to being asked to pay for a shower as this is inconsistent with our practice of accommodating our guests when ever possible who have stayed with us the night before. Unfortunately your experience occurred at our a time when the Lodge was under temporary management as we were away on holiday. We will be addressing the issue.
