I stayed in a basic onsite van (an old fixed caravan) and was happy with my choice for the price. Although the caravan was a little musty, the linens were clean and the mattress comfy. The bathrooms were close by and were generally clean. They took a bit of a hammering over the Easter break, but cleaning staff seemed to be keeping well on top of it. All staff I encountered were pleasant and helpful. The beach is stunning and the site is in a good spot to walk to Cathedral Cove. The holiday park has wifi you can pay for or computer terminals. There is a shop in the village and a couple of places to eat. This very much feels like a family holiday place, not for those up for wild nightlife. I did not have a car, and this made exploring the wider area challenging. I ended up walking and hitching to Hot Water Beach. There is a shuttle which operates in the area, but this was a little expensive for just one person.

Our On-site Caravans are a comfortable and affordable option for the warmer months. Unfortunately our local Pub/Restaurant burnt down a few months ago now, which has been a huge loss to the community. Plans are afoot for a new establishment. Due to the gorgeous weather this summer, we've had a busier Easter than anticipated. The staff did a fantastic job of keeping up. Thank you for your feedback.

I arrived for a three night stay over the Easter weekend and the last big holiday before autumn, so the place was very busy.
I was rather disappointed on arrival that they had cancelled my booking despite me having sent all the correct details.
The lady on reception was very apologetic and managed to get me a site on block H for two nights so I only had one night in block D.
There's a big difference between the two locations. Block H overlooks the sea and is wonderful. Block E also looked nice - by the creek.
It's been the only site so far that had unlimited hot water for showers for which it gets lots of brownie points. Otherwise you had to time your usage of the facilities because it was so busy.
There is a shop up the road for buying supplies, but nothing on site.
The beach however was wonderful and close to Cathedral Cove and Hot Water Beach. A short drive takes you to Flaxmill Bay where you can get a passenger ferry to Whitianga.
Lots of stuff to see and do.
If they upgraded their facilities this would be a top place - out of the main holiday times.

Room Tip: Block H - best views. Or Block E by the creek

We aplogise again for the glitch with your reservation. Upgrading the facilities is on our 'to do' list, and is currently under discussion. The difference with H block sites, which are a popular choice for Camper-vans, are the gorgeous Sea-views, drinkable water, a picnic table and washing line. Hahei is such a central location for attractions. Thank you, we welcome any comments which help us to improve the Camp.

We stayed for Easter and had a very enjoyable 3 nights here. The room was very clean and everything we had requested (travel cot, high chair) was already there for us to use. There is a fridge, 2 cooker hobs, kettle, toaster and microwave. The communal BBQ is available outside but we didn't use it.
The location is good at the end of the camp site as it is quiet and very close to the lovely beach. The only noise we experienced was the sound of children running around upstairs but that stopped by 11pm so not too bad.
Cathedral Cove is only a short drive away and a definite must see. We went on a Leopard boat tour around the bays as some of the walks weren't suitable for us and our 10 month old baby. Viewing Cathedral Cove by boat was fantastic and we got some great photos.
I would definitely stay here if I visit this part of New Zealand again.

My husband and I stayed in our motorhome on site H2 last week for 3 nights (March 2013). Absolutely awesome views, flat sites, beach close by, amenities clean and tidy, friendly staff. We even had our own clothes line and picnic table. Wow !! Paying a little extra for the best site was well worth it, we will be back to enjoy your wonderful resort soon. We have certainly told people about it Hahei Holiday Resort already and plan to tell as many as we can. We felt we were in Paradise with the beautiful hibiscus shrubs and palm trees in New Zealand rather than travelling overseas. 4 stars and AAA rating for you at Hahei Holidays !!

Cameras everywhere. Kitchen is like in the army with no freezer in the fridge. Shower is clean. Toilet is clean.
Overall overpriced place for people with a tent.

Well worth the location right by the beach.

Thank you for your review. We are sorry you did not feel entirely comfortable. We agree our facilities for campers are simple but adequate, and we appreciate your notice of the cleanliness. We hope that our family atmosphere, lovely grounds with mature trees, and friendly staff provide a welcoming stay. Our pricing reflects the value of the wonderful location as well as the services we offer. Please note that we do provide freezer space at Reception and are looking into putting them into the Kitchen/Laundry area. Due to the large numbers we accommodate over summer, we need to take certain security precautions such as having cameras in high usage public areas.

We agree. The facilities have certainly stood the test of time and held up to many Summer stampedes! Discussions are underway for further development within the camp. We appreciate you taking the time to comment. We also think Hahei is pretty awesome!

My husband and I visited Hahei Holiday Resort with my husbands parents (aged 60+) and stayed for a week.

We had both a powered site and a tent site, both of which were more than spacious. Our tent is quite karge and we have had trouble finding tent sites that will accommodate both the tent and the car, but we had no problems.

Our sites were near a toilet block, and also the main block of kitchen and showers. The showers were hot, powerful and always very clean.

The location is the real selling point though. It is literally ON the beautiful Hahei beach. We saw the sunrise and set in this amazing setting every night and swam in the sea there every day. The beach was deserted, with only a few other holidaymakers and locals joining us in enjoying this amazing place.

The Cathedral Cove Kayaking trip is on the beach, and walking distance, so is the General Store (10 minute walk) and The Church restaurant (15 minute walk) if you fancy treating yourself to a night out.

Also a short drive away is Hot Water Beach, Cooks Beach and the Ferry Landing.

I would thoroughly recommend staying at Hahei Holiday Resort, but I would recommend you book! It's THAT good.

Room Tip: We stayed on D block, sites 10 and 11. Far enough away from the beach so that our tent didn't bl...
