“Hahei Holiday Resort”
Reviewed February 4, 2013

We stayed in Hahei with our family so had two powered sites. The resort was average, the facilities tired and old, not enough bar b ques for the amount of customers and all very overpriced. I had problems booking on the internet so telephoned and then had to go back to internet booking and then problems paying the deposit as it became clear that the staff do not actually read the emails. We were very disappointed as my daughter in law had heard good reports and really wanted to go there. None of us would go there again.

There are corporate operations offering a different style of camping – our facilities are basic we agree. Hahei Holidays has been offering camping for the past 50 years and some of the facilities have been part of the park for a long time. Plans are afoot for change however the vision is to retain the true camping experience. Thank you for bringing the barbques to our attention and it is certainly something we will discuss. There is a particular form required in order to complete a peak season reservation and ALL enquiries are directed to that form. Thank you for taking the time to express your feelings

We were travelling with another couple and looked at a couple of cabins - perfectly ok but a bit basic - before deciding on a studio with a queen sized bed and a sofa bed. Our room had a decent, modern kitchenette with sharp knives ( a necessity in my book, but often lacking!), a microwave and hot plate. The shower room was clean, modern and had plenty of shelving. We had a small terrace with table and chairs and a barbecue close by. The campsite has a very good laundry area with plenty of machines, sinks and washing lines. The communal kitchen also looked good, although we didn't use it. The site was busy with children but all well behaved and enjoying themselves, and it is beside a long, sandy beach - good for swimming and very scenic.

Room Tip: The studios cost a little more but are worth it!

Thank you for your response. We offer a wide range of accommodation ranging from camping sites through to Sea View Luxury Villas, designed to offer accommodation for all budgets. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay and we agree sharp knives are a must! Hahei Beach is one of the most beautiful destinations and a gateway to many activities on the Coromandel.

We arrived on Christmas day and left on New Years day. We were two families with children in adjoining unpowered camp sites. The sites were both huge with lots of room to spread out and be comfortable with boats, tents and shade cover. The facilities were immaculate. The staff, extremely friendly and very helpful. The location is ideal, mere steps from the beach, the best ice cream and pizza a quick walk down the road. And the neighbours supplied the perfect combination of ages of girls to compliment ours! We'll definitely be back! Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable.

That is awesome – thank you so much for taking the time to deliver such positive feedback. The location is certainly perfect, and it is ideal having the village only a short stroll from the park. We will most definitely pass on your compliments to the team who work hard to keep the facilities up to scratch. Many families book from year to year and great friendships have been forged as a result. We hope that you are able to reunite with new found friends on your next visit.

We checked in for a long weekend on a Friday, to find no mowing been done on site. I would also think that when claiming to be a resort the overall maintainence on property, would be up to scratch. The toilet and shower facilities are only cleaned once daily, and not many of them for size of camp. Mildew on walls and ceilings ablution block. Also on day of our departure, no cleaning had been done on toilet/ shower facilities since previous day, and at 7.30am the kitchen area was still locked, so no one could cook breakfast of have any hot water for coffees, etc. Very disappointed this time round. Had stayed before, but place has certainly lost its appeal :(

By definition, “Resort” is a place that is a popular destination for vacations or recreation, or which is frequented for a particular purpose. The facilities are cleaned twice daily during peak season which finished on the Sunday of the long weekend, and most likely why the kitchen had not been reopened at the usual 6am . This is entirely our fault, and we apologise for the inconvenience. The humidity and damp environment of ablution blocks makes keeping ahead of the mildew a challenge. The walls and ceilings are part of the detailed cleans, which are carried out regularly however this is not a daily task.

We have made a note of your comments – and have taken steps to ensure that this will not happen again. We are very sorry that you did not enjoy your stay.

We arrived to chaos at the office block at front.
Crowds of kids on bikes, trikes, bouncing balls and running about in the middle of the driveway.
The office was crowded with a long line of people.
Two backpackers were complaining that their room had dirty linen and no blankets. A man in another line was complaining he had been over charged. The office was obviously under staffed with stressed out employees juggling people and phones.
We returned to our cars to ring round, since the other park at Hot Beach cost more....here was it.

Upon arrival at our non-powered campsite the first thing we noticed was bags & boxes of rubbish on many of the empty campsites. Empty beer bottles littering other sites.

The litter by the second night remained and was now attracting seagulls/cats who ripped open bags and scattered the contents about.

The young cleaners in gumboots decided to clean our closest block peak time in the morning which meant the small amount of showers/toilets were even more stretched with long waiting lines. At least that meant the female soiled napkin stuck on the back of a toilet door would be removed :p

POSITIVES
Close to Cathedral Cove & Hot Beach
A beautiful beach was minutes away on foot
Great Hot showers ( pick offpeak times)
Separate Fish cleaning sites
Obviously family friendly
Clean dish washing shelters
Walk to local shops

NEGATIVES
Understaffed for demand
Too few Shower/Toilet blocks to amount of people
Rubbish left days without removal attracting birds/cats
Poor service due to stressed & over worked staff

Despite first impressions it is actually organised chaos! We welcome our regular tour group of travellers on the Stray bus four times a week and even though it seems a little mad at the time it only takes about 15 minutes to process up to 45 guests.
It is a juggle at times but we thrive on the interaction and rely on robust procedures to ensure that all of our visitors are well looked after.
We are a very popular destination and well priced as you noted and encourage people to pre book where possible to allow us to manage arrivals during busy times.
Parents are encouraged to be responsible for their children when out and about on bikes and scooters but as this is a large family oriented camp sometimes a few of them get away!
Our outdoor staff and cleaners work extremely hard to ensure that the camp is kept clean and tidy. The rubbish truck covers the entire camp every morning to pick up rubbish and recycling.
Customers leaving their sites after this time are encouraged to take their rubbish to the bins provided but unfortunately this is not always the case!
After feedback from customers last year we added a third clean to the daily roster in order to try and keep on top of customer demands throughout the toilet blocks at this particular time of year and we feel that slight delays are more than compensated for by clean toilets!
Thank you for taking the time to offer your feedback and we hope that you choose to visit us again.

A great place for all ages. Well behaved patrons and clean well kept facilities. Such a relaxing place with the beach right there! The other campers were friendly with many long established friendships evident. Easy walk to shops if you needed anything - huge icecreams for a small price.
lovely beach for walking, swimming, kayaking, boating.

This is really close to the two popular attractions Hot Water beach and Cathedral Cove which makes it perfect. The facilities are good and the unit we stayed in was ok size and clean. The best thing here is the Hahei beach which is absolutely stunning! Go to the ice cream place on the way to Cathedral Cove, they have very nice real fruit ice creams!

We think Hahei Beach is one of the best too! We are lucky to have 500m of this pristine coastline as our boundary.
It is still ice cream eating weather so come back and visit us again soon.
