spent 1 night there and were disappointed. Unfriendly old owner who is only interested in making money with everything. This management should go to retirement. rooms are ok and clean, service and information from owner are not available.
room is too expensive. they are part of australia youthhostel, but you feel that only in the rooms, not in the wallet!
nice walking way possible. a lot of cangaroos.
they have a x-thousand litter swimming pool, but if you want to clean your dishes you get big trouble if you don't wash them with the brown muddy water already used from 10 other guys.
one night was enough. the old management should go to retirement. When new management this place good be nice. But not the way it is at the moment.

We stayed here for 3 days. My son - 9 years old - had the time of his life!
The picked us up at our hostel in Rockhampton at 6.30am and we were in time for breakfast at Myella.
We immediately felt at home. The farm has a nice garden to hang out in the hammocks. It's all about relaxing when you stay at Myella. For me three days was enough, otherwise I would get bored. But relaxing for three days... the place to be!!
The same morning of our arrival we went horse riding. Quiet an adventure for my son and I cause we never went horse riding before. The location to go horse riding is stunning! I felt like in a movie whent we were riding in the outstreched grassland.
We went horse riding three times and always on the same horse. You learn to saddle your horse and anfter the ride you feed and brush the horses.
At any time you can collect eggs. Fun for the kids.
Every day we had the opportunity to milk a cow or handfeed the calfs with a bottle.
My son learned to crack a whip and trow a lasso.
Two times we went on the 4x4tour. An adventurous ride on the Myella domain.
One evening we went on a mountain bike to see the sunset... amazing! Beautiful! Stunning!
The meals were dilicious!!!
Last but not least: the orphan kangaroos that stay in the garden. My son was in love with Wally, a 10-month old joey. He got to handfeed Wally too. Wen we had to go, he crief a lot! :-( Certainly a stay we won't forget!
Only one disadvantage: we were there in the Australian winter so it was cold... freezing cold in the rooms!!! There was no heating!

I chose Myella as I was looking for a traditional Ozzie farmstay where I could try out horseriding and see how a working farm in action to keep me occupied and I wasn't disappointed. Olive & Peter and their daughter Lyn who run the farm are delightful. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The farm caters for a whole host of people including families, backpackers and couples.

For the price that you pay you get a real bargain. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included plus half a days horse riding, learning to ride a motorbike, milking cows, collecting eggs, sitting in a hammock, feeding the calves. If you were to cost this separately you would pay 3 x as much and probably not even enjoy it half as much. Everyone is very friendly and whilst its not sugary sweet niceness you feel welcome as part of the team.

Would thoroughly recommend this to anyone passing through Rockhampton which is otherwise a pretty dull place.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Myella for 2 nights and 3 days and had a really good time. I booked it as I wanted to horseride and get a taste of the outback. The farm is run by Peter and Olive and their daughter Lynn also works on the farm. They also have two or three other people who help them. Shane has worked for them for a few years.
We were picked up by Shane in Rockhampton (6.30am start) and taken by car the 90 minute trip to the farm. Shane showed us a few of the sights on the way. We had breakfast when we arrived and then got ready to go out on a horseride. No wasting time!
There’s always a choice of things to do on the farm, and really you can do as much or as little as you want. Every morning we went out for a long walk through the farm, either Lynn or Shane, or one of the other helpers, Jo, would take us. The group sizes varied depending on how many people were staying. On our first night there were 5 guests and the next night there were 11 with a family of 4. Abilities ranged from people who had never ridden to one woman who grew up herding cattle on her parent’s ranch. Its mostly walking, but we did a bit of trotting. It really depends on the groups ability.
In the afternoons we did motorbike riding. Peter took an afternoon teaching a few of us how to ride and when he felt we were good enough we could go around the farm on the tracks. I really enjoyed it, although it was hot. There was also 4x4 tours of the farm, whip cracking, milking the cows, feeding the baby calves, rounding up the horses in the morning – so much to do. There’s a pool which is really nice for a dip after horse riding.
There are plenty of animals around the farm and really tame kangaroos. It’s an excellent place to come if you want to see kangaroos up close and personal. Also a hilarious talking galah called Floyd.
The stay is fully catered with breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food is incredible, all home cooked. It was the best cooking we had in our whole stay in Oz. The accommodation is excellent, clean good sized rooms and all the bathrooms are spotless. The washing facilities for laundry are also good, nice to have a washing line to dry your clothes.
There were real mixes of people, families with young children, couples, and single backpackers. It’s not somewhere to come if you want to get drunk every night, the only beer is the home brew made by Peter. They want to keep a nice atmosphere. We did, however, venture to the local pub (16km away), which is an option if you can’t face two or three nights without alcohol.
I’d say this is a must for any East Coast trip, and because they pick up from Rockhampton really accessible if you don’t have a car or you’re on the Greyhound.

We have travelled trough Australia for 2 months (cairns-Melbourne-great ocean road) and staying at Myella is certainly in the top 5 of places visited by us. We are still surprised how Lyn,Olive and Peter can really connect to people in such short time. I think just being themselves does the trick... Don't expect fancy rooms and disneyland friendlyness, but rooms that provide the basic needs (including a fine pool) and honest friendly people. The activities provided are a good way to explore the area/location. The food was really good and enjoying the breakfast, lunch and diner at long tables with lots of other people gave the impression of a family meeting. You make friends easily that way, no barriers in connecting to people and.... animals of course. Our little boy (3 year old) loved the little kangeroo's, birds, horses and cows. Besides the animals you expect to see at a farm, the family also takes care of orphen animals who are recovering from injuries. What we much appreciated is that Lyn really took the time for him and took him on a horse-ride too. You can see that she is experienced (as a former teacher) with handeling with small childeren. Our son is still telling stories about this trough adventure for him (driving such big horse).

A place and especially the people (owners) we can recommend to anyone, visiting australia and interested in a framstay.

My husband was unsure of the long drive and the farm activities described for Myella. He agreed to add this stop because our teens would like it. Well, it was a star attraction. The wonderful family shared their lives and experiences with us.
Interesting working farm. Tourists get to see it all, but have their own agenda. We tried horseback riding, Aussie style in the morning. Very different from western or English style riding. Afternoon was dirt biking. They are very safety oriented, so a thorough orientation needs to be 'passed'. Many don't make the cut. It was challenging and fun.
Our 13 and 14 years old like the animals best - Harry the feather-less cockatoo and the Floyd the friendly Gallah. Joey the 1 year old adopted Roo who would appear out of nowhere.
Rooms very basic with shared bathrooms. Simple group meals were a good chance to meet fellow travellers. Just a wonderful chance to experience Australia off the beaten track.

Basic accommodation but it is a farm. You get out what you put in as the activities are not set in stone. If somethings happening, join in or ask. Its like being part of an extended family, its not highly organised and activities are based around what you want to do and whats needed to be done - like feeding the animals. In 2 days I rode both mornings, motorbiked, fed the calves and baby kangaroo, fed the horses off the back of the 4 w drive, watched the sunset, tried to learn the lasso and whip skills, milked the cow and relaxed in the hammock. They also had a swimming pool to cool off in.
