“Camping with class and style!”
Reviewed October 1, 2012 via mobile

I had an awesome time at Paperbark Camp.
Each tent is secluded enough in the woods that you feel you have done all the work setting up your hideout in the wilderness :) The giveaway thathymus have not broken a sweat is when you realise that each tent is large, slightly above ground and beautifully appointed with all your luxury amenities. There is even a well known restaurant, Gunyah, is only a short walk away on the camping grounds.
Nights are especially bewitching when wallabies and possums come visiting.
I also especially love the fact that strangers can come together over the nightly campfire and become friends over desserts, wine and cheese.
Special thanks go to Ben, Shona and a wonderful team dedicated to make your stay an experiential one.
If roughing out is not your thing, why not try luxury camping at Paperbark. It certainly gets my vote!

Wonderful service, beautifully appointed accomodation and a unique experience. Paperbark touches the earth so lightly you almost feel like you are giving something back by just staying there. Breakfasts were awesome and The Gunyah restaurant serves excellent food.

This is a quality experience. I stayed here almost a year ago and it's in my mind as something unique and very memorable, for the right reasons.

Just this week I was looking at a travel site and came across the Paperbark Camp, so I visitied their website again. My first reaction was "wow it is expensive" but then, after browsing the gallery again I remembered the beautiful 'tents' with excellent and comfortable beds, the charming bush furniture and the very handy ensuite (no tent I've ever stayed in had those).

Then there's the sounds of the birds waking up in the morning, the fresh scent of the melaleuca bush and the walking tracks through the bush alongside the river. Truly memorable and enjoyable.

If you're touring the NSW South Coast and you schedule at least a 1 night stop here, you'll have an experience that you'll remember for a long time. One that will help you forget that you paid so much to sleep in a 'tent'.

We stayed here overnight. We were in Australia over Easter vacation, drove from Sydney to Melbourne, this was our first overnight stop. I will describe this place as an upscale camp. Camping in the wilderness with all the comforts. It's a very unique experience especially for our 2 kids. Great food in the restaurant. (free wifi in restaurant). Free use of bikes. You sleep in cottages made of canvas tents, you can hear all the animals at night. Outdoor shower, which is cool. I am not sure though if I can handle more than 1 night in this place- just because of the mosquitoes. I guess it's to be expected since it's set amidst a forest. Put some insect repellant before you go out of the car, I got bitten even before getting out of the car. The camp itself will provide you with lots and lots of insect repellant inside the cottages. Do not leave any open food inside the tent, in our case, a small mouse tried to eat our chips!

I discovred this place by chance, and once I did wanted to try it.
The tents:
Very comfortable and spacious with ensuite (open air) and soft bed. We tried the deluxe and I recommend this option. It is not luxury as an african safari tent but is nice all the same. A possum tried to enter each night - a part of the bush experience
The logde: good food and service. Breakfast was ok but only instant coffee included in the price.
The area: beautiful beaches!! It was wonderful even if the weather wasn't great.
Do I recommend it? It depends. Sure it means having a shower with a gigantic spider, but it also means waking up to the sound of the bush and seeing kangeroos jumping around the tent, so for me I do recommend it. But if you are pure " city slicker" then not so much....

Room Tip: Book the deluxe tent!

Having read about this luxury campground in the BA Highlife magazine months earlier I was delighted to be brought here for a night of ‘glamping’ as a surprise following my boyfriend proposing to me during our vacation in Australia. We had a deluxe tent ‘Kookaburra’ on the edge of the site and the décor and amenities could be compared with a luxury hotel. We strongly recommend eating dinner at the restaurant. The menu was divine, and particularly memorable was the iced chocolate mousse for dessert which could be the nicest sweet we’ve ever enjoyed. Breakfast is also top notch - best granola ever.

Our stay was brief but we were able to take advantage of the bikes and kayaks offered to guests to explore the area further. One note, the hotel provides a number of mosquito repellent products so use them in abundance to ensure itchy bites don’t detract from a dream stay!!!

Shona at reception couldn’t have been more helpful, from the start when my boyfriend was planning the surprise to wishing us off as we left the hotel and is part of a smashing team of staff.

Room Tip: Deluxe rooms aren't overlooked by neighbours so a bit more private, especially as the bathroom i...
