“A true Pacific pearl”

Like the name would suggest, the Hosteria La Perla is just that - an absolute pearl. I stayed 2 nights in this wonderful hosteria and could not have asked for a more relaxing time, with a wonderful welcoming hostess and staff. The sound of the pacific waves almost caressing me to sleep at night is something I shall treasure forever. A true Pacific pearl and a place I look forward to visiting again and again.

My 9 night stay at La Perla was simply amazing. The service, rooms, view and peacefulness of La Perla make it a great value. The rear gate opens up to your personal path to the beach (less than 60 seconds away) and the sound of the ocean will lull you to sleep at night. Monica couldn't have been a more gracious host. She arranged all of my day trips (diving and hiking Isla de la Plata, whale watching and a horseback trip into the cloud forest in Machalilla National Park). Each trip exceeded my expectations! The village of Las Tunas and it's beach are the perfect place to recover from a long day of sightseeing and exploring (It's just minutes from Puerto Lopez). I'll definitely be back.

We spent 5 nights at La Perla, Las Tunas after a week in the Oriente and couldn't have asked for a better place to relax. Monica and her fabulous staff took great care of us while we were there and helped us get the most out of our stay. We took a day trip to Isla de la Plata which we recommend if only to see the blue footed Boobies! Another day trip was to "Bolo de Oro" - an indigenous, community run, eco-project. During this guided walk in the coastal forest you could see monkeys and toucans if you're lucky, but there are lots of other interesting things to discover. Our guide was great and as part of the tour you have dinner at his Mum's house!
La Perla has surf / body boards for hire to play in the surf and plenty of beer if you prefer to relax in a hammock on the beach for the afternoon. Massages are a bargain and if you like Yoga it's free every morning with Monica.
We highly recommend La Perla for a friendly, relaxed and comfortable escape on the coast.

After traveling ecuador for a few month with my wife and kids we stayed at a variety of hotels and hostels one of the most memorable hotels we visited was hostaria la perla. it is a very relaxed and peaceful ambiance great for some R and R with a good book. I would return to this paradise next year if we hadn't already set our sights on Brazil but some day i will return.

I did not expect to enjoy that much in Las Tunas but certainly it can be called Paradise. The beach and the beautiful sightseeing, the peace you embrace there, it was great to energize the spirit (this is a comment from a very very urban girl) forgetting all the bustle life from the big cities. and most of all thanks to Monica, very dedicated host, paying attention to all details, thanks for the strawberry and ecuadorean hot sauce recipes and not to forget those hotdogs with fried onions, yummi yummi. My boyfriend enjoyed a lot surfing. Great waves! we also made friends! Staying at La Perla was an unique experience. Monica keep on fighting to preserve the amazing nature! well done!! Look what you have accomplished. All the best. Hope to go back to Hosteria La Perla again.

we stayed for a week at La perla - and we were the only guests apart from one other couple for 2 nights.... and maybe this is where the problem lied....
Monica is a very personable host and we found her to be helpful and interesting to talk to at times.... but at others we felt "under her feet" and we ended up feeling like we had outstayed our welcome and she was more interested in the needs of her boyfriend/handyman than us the guests....
that said - we were there in low season - the atmosphere may be much different in the busier times of year...and we paid a very reasonable rate for our room - which was kept very clean and tidy for us.... the location was beautiful and the ocean just a stone's throw away was really enjoyable... we ate some lunches there out of convenienvce but my vegetarian partner was not well-catered for....
there is a beautiful ginger cat and 2 playful dogs on site that regularly came walking with us - but as i have noted in my other reviews - the general care and respect for the animals here was not positive - she takes little or no interest in their welfare.... i found myself saving scraps for them on a daily basis and just giving them some attention that seemed much needed....

This hotel has something for everyone, backpackers, couples, families, everyone is welcome! The great thing about this place is the vibe. The hotel feels like your personal beach house the second you walk through the door. The owner is incredible. She is a marine biologist and speaks a multitude of languages, so language is hardly a problem. She knows everything about the area and animals. Sometimes her kids are there and they also help bring the friendly and family atmosphere. There's also a beautiful intimate spa. And if you have the time, get a massage, they're exactly what you need after playing in the waves all day. Which brings me to the beach. The beach is a stretch several kilometers long. The best part is that you only have to share with the few fisherman and a couple of tourists. Las Tunas beach is the only beach in Ecuador that produces waves for surfers all year long, but don't let that scare you off. During low tide is a great time to swim in the gorgeous Pacific Ocean. There is also a variety of activities to fill your day. From surfing to whale watching, and bird watching, La Perla has it all. Over all La Perla was my favorite part of Ecuador aside from the ceviche and marduros.
