“Great family outing if you want to tire out the kids”

Great views from the tram car and a solid hike for families with kids over five. Trails are well maintained and I agree with e other reviews, the waterfalls are just okay if your viewing them, but if you want to get the full experience, bring your bathing suits and jump in at each of the falls....good full day trip if you want to take your time.....or half day otherwise.

About 6 km from Mindo, up a road that is a good one to see birds, you come to a small aerial cable car that will take you across a small valley over the tree canopy. It is very nice, but having maintained some aerial tram systems myself, the construction and lack of safety practices concerned me a little. When you arrive on the other side, you have a fair hike down a sometimes steep trail to a waterfall that is quite scenic. Apparently, there are about 7 in total, if you have the time and desire to hike a lot more. I did not have the time, as we arrived with just enough time to get to the one waterfall and back to the tram before closing time at 4pm. The price was $5 for the tram each. Nice hike if you take the time to check out the views and flora.

The waterfalls are not that big. The wslk is nice but nothing very special, there are so many other better things to do in Ecuador.

The falls are what I would describe as average, that is nice but not spectacular. It is possible to swim there be beneath the falls and access to the water is pretty easy after you cross the concrete foot bridge. Getting to the falls involves about a 20-30 minute steeply descending trail, so you should be in reasonably good shape before attempting to reach this or any of the falls in the area.

Mindo is really nice and quiet place to relax and spend one or two days. From Quito it is reachable within a two-hours drive by bus. As well transfers by travel agencies are available that I recommend, because I was robbed once in a bus without recognizing it until I had to pay the taxi driver.
For example there is a travel agency near Plaza Foch called Gulliver Expeditions, nice service and quiet good offers such as this daily tour to Mindo. But I stayed there over night, in a really nice place called Caffekasku, food and drinks are delicious.
To the waterfalls you should take a taxi for max. $8, best time is before midday and probably not on weekends or ecuadorian vacations (as I did) because otherwise you have to wait an hour to go on the funny cable car. There are two ways down, best is the longer one, but do both its worth it. Don't forget your swimming items!
