“Portuguese artisan bakery and cafe”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 27, 2011

Fresh baked goods . Breads cakes and much more. Espresso, simple sandwiches, a soup, batter dipped cod even sardines and special meat pies croquettes and a kind of chicken fried dumpling. Walking into this place is like walking out of the country and back in time. Located in very ethnically diverse south side of New Bedford Massachusetts but you would think you're in a portuguese cafe. Local ladies talking (in portuguese of course) sitting having coffee and cake, the TV playing Portuguese stations. Its an old fashioned mom and daughter bakery but they are truly artisans and a treat to find in a tight knit old fashioned neighborhood. Its the real deal and not located in a trendy imitation environment. Go in any weekday except Monday and you'll find the basics but go in Saturday or Sunday till 1pm and you will find the most unbelievable cakes to bring when you go visiting. Your hosts will be delighted. Old world artisans, old world neighborhood, catering to old world traditions. I love this place. R.Shucks Travelin' Raw Bar serves our clam chowdah in a fresh baked breadbowl made to order by Beira Mar bakery. If they're on vacation we won't serve it.
