When we walked into Lydia's Bakery it was like walking into a local bakery and eatery in Portugal. The room was nearly full with a European coffee house crowd sipping coffee, eating wonderful pastries, chatting, laughing and watching Portoguese television. The selection of pastries was amazing and everything looked great. We sampled the almond tarts with a rich cup of coffee and were hooked. There's a huge selection of breads, rolls and sweet breads, some in bins and some in plastic bags. We took home a big round loaf of sweet bread that was light and rich and delicious. This wonderful backery is nestled in a colorful working class neighborhood in New Bedford, a city rich with food, history and wonderful archetecture. Check this place out . You'll be happy you did.
