I recently visited Tia Maria for breakfast. The wait staff is very friendly, attentive, and accommodating. There was a large selection of breakfast fare to choose from. I had the Spanish omelet that was a tasty large overstuffed omelet with sausage, onion, pepper and cheese. It was accompanied by homefries and toast.
My friend had French toast with fresh strawberries and whipped cream. They were attractively presented and both were very ample servings.
The newly opened restaurant specializes in many Portuguese style selections. I'm looking forward to trying it for lunch as well.

Had lunch at a new spot in the New Bedford National Whaling Historic park yesterday. Tia Maria,s offers quality food at pretty good prices. The menu has a Portuguese flair, but there is something for everyone. I had a Churico and Fries plate (good) my wife had a bowl of delicious Kale soup. It was very busy at 11:45. Decor is very nice, and it is nice and light inside there. Ther is plenty of seating. Service was good, prices were not too bad. We will return again.

The breakfast here is awesome. Staff is extremely friendly. It's convenient to just about everything in downtown New Bedford. They serve Portuguese custard cups for dessert with many of their breakfasts. Seriously, who does that? Dessert with breakfast?! These people are doing it right! I will definitely be returning here. Everything was phenomenal!

Tia Maria's is located in New Bedford's Whaling National Historical Park and is one of the best additions to New Bedford.
Housed in an historic building behind the Whaling Museum it has become the go- to restaurant for breakfast lunch and dinner or just coffee, tea and perhaps a Pastel da Nata, a Portuguese sweet custard pastry. Portuguese music, both traditional and modern fills the restaurant and the cafe reminds me of the wonderful cafes we frequent when we visit mainland Portugal, the Azores and Madeira. The menu includes both Portuguese and American dishes and is simply decorated with a few tasteful accents. We enjoyed a wonderful breakfast on Saturday, bacon & eggs for me, a fluffly Western Omelet for my husband and a Mallasada made by "Avo" Grandmother) . Soft, sugary, and not at all greasy. Back in the city on business today we decided to stop in for lunch. We were happy to have the very personable and attentive server Brian as our waiter. The special Azorean grilled chicken sandwich with cebolada, (sauteed onions) on a Portuguese "pop" served with round fries was what my husband ordered while I chose the house made Cacoila (stewedpork) sandwich. Being Portuguese ourselves we have much to compare it to and these dishes along with the delicious Calde Verde soup certainly measured up! We finished our lunch with dessert and coffee. Arroz Doce, Portuguese sweet rice is my husband;'s favorite and he always compares it to his Mother's. This one got a nod and several yums so I know it is something he will order everytime we visit.
Owner Jessica and her waitstaff are really great and the fact that most of them speak Portuguese just adds to the ambience and makes those of us who know the language feel right at home.
PARABENS (Congratulatiions) to Tia Maria's!!
