“SOS... Steak on a Slab??”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

First of all it is important to note that the Fall River/New Bedford area has some very good Portuguese restaurants and this one is in the top echelon. It is somewhat more formal than many of the local restaurants, nicely decorated with a beautiful outdoor area for warm summer nights and interior that is very nicely done. Parking is in the back off of Acushnet Ave. and although the lot is large parking can be a challenge on Friday and Saturday nights. What makes this restaurant special is the food. There are many traditional Portuguese items but the one that sets this apart is the Steak on a Slab of Stone(at least that's what I call it). A very generous portion of sirloin is delivered on a piece of stone that it was cooked on. It is important to order the steak rarer than you normally would. You then cut thin strips and cook them to your liking on the stone. The stone stays hot for at least 30 minutes and the seasonings and juices stay on the stone as you cook each piece to perfection. A truly unique experience and you WILL want to come back again. Don't be like I was and order some thing else ( I had the Paella which was also excellent) and have to beg others for a taste of this wonderful treat. I didn't make that mistake the second time I visited. And if that was not enough the homemade deserts were very tasty. Our table had four different deserts and I managed a taste of each and was not disappointed. If your looking for a nice relaxing night out in New Bedford this is it.

“Wonderful night out!”
Reviewed September 1, 2013

We went here with another couple. Met at the bar and put our name in for a table. Sat at the bar for about a half hour, the bartenders are pleasant and make a nice martini... The interior of the restaurant is upscale, modern with warm charming colors. It really puts you at ease. We were seated in the dining room and were quickly greeted by our waiter Ricky, who by the way was fabulous! Everything we ordered from appetizers, entrees to dessert and expresso was fabulous. We even took stuff home they gave you so much! Prices were reasonable and we were very satisfied with the whole experience. You could go later and sit out on the patio and have a drink while waiting for a table. They were lighting the fire when we left but the outside patio is like your in a different world, with a beautiful fountain with fish swimming in it and a roaring fire. Just lovely. We would highly recommend and will be returning.

“Beautiful restaurant”
Reviewed August 20, 2013

The interior of the restaurant is really pretty and the service was great. We loved the crab cake . The steak on the stone was unique but not worth the price . We might give the restaurant a second chance though because of the atmosphere not the prices.

“outstanding !!”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

Cotali Mar is a Portuguese restaurant. There are lots of Portuguese establishments in New Bedford and this one is certainly in the top 5. For the uninitiated, it is located on Acushnet Ave. between Sawyer and Coggeshall Sts. in the north end of the city. No on street parking but there is a large
parking lot off of Sawyer. Alfresco dining is available during the warmer months. The interior is very modern. It's the food that brings locals in by the carload. The wait staff is knowledgeable and courteous always. My favorite meal there is a one pound
sirloin steak that is cooked and served on a slab of granite.
A bit pricey at New Bedford standards at $27.00 but worth every penny to steak lovers. The Portuguese fare is terrific and for those unfamiliar with this style of dining, it's one of the world's best, and no one gets cheated as to portion size . Tourists are urged to give Cotali Mar a go if visiting the area.

“Beautiful Restaurant - the best food”
Reviewed June 13, 2013

I have had both lunch and dinner at this restaurant in New Bedford. Even though the restaurant is on a "not so attractive" main street, they have a very peaceful outside courtyard and parking in the back. The inside of the restaurant is beautifully decorated and the food was excellent. The menu is about 80% traditional Portuguese with some very nice American selections. The service is spot on. A very nice experience and I can't wait to go back again. More of a special night experience where you can relax and take your time with the meal.
