Situated in the middle of the New Bedford fishing boats on Pope's Island, this restaurant is a retreat for many of the local men and women who work in the fishing industry. The food portions are generous and favor dishes of local harvest like scallops, shrimp, cod, tuna etc. Full of character and hearty fish cuisine. Have dined there a few times and would go back again.

Was on a week's vacation to visit the old homeland. Family brought me to their new favorite place to eat. Went here on a Friday night. Had to wait 20 minutes, that was not bad. Place was packed and after reviewing the menu, and tasting the food, and drinks, I know why.
What a wonderful exciting menu. We each had drinks ,appetizers, and main course. All the seafood was the freshest and tastiest. We each had the clam chowder, that was great, lot's of clams and crème. My daughter had the lobster Mac & cheese, the lobster pieces were huge, I had the broiled scallops and my daughters friend had the blackened scallops over linguine. The scallops were cooked perfectly. the whole meal was extremely tasty, and the ambience and wait staff attentive. The owners have their own fishing boats that are parked off the large outdoor patio with a view of the harbor. The inside bar counter is a sight, to behold, beautiful workmanship. Be aware, call ahead for reservations, and or order from the take out. A bit pricy but worth it.

Raw bar with fresh oysters, outstanding clam chowder, a varied menu with many gteat items to choose from, lively bar area, indoor and outdoor seating with a nice water view. Get here early as it gets very crowed. Call a half-hour ahead of arrival to get your name on the waiting list.

Went here for drinks and apps with my wife recently. Normally we enjoy fathoms but our past 2 experienceds were below average.
This time we must have waited 30 minutes to get the bartender to take our drink order---we wanted to leave but decided to stay and see how long she could possibly ignore us.
Then, drink order in hand, she forgot to deliver our drinks for at least another 10 mins.
Food order was finally taken but not rang in for another 10--- the overall timing of everything was horrible.
Food was good when we got it, but who wants to wait an hour or more to get to that point????

Heard great things about this place and finally got to try it last month. We sat outside with a great view and great service (lucky, b/c we didn't have a reservation and it was packed!). The food was good. It was hard to choose what to order; so many good things on the menu! The oysters were fresh and sweet. Lobster Bisque and house salad very good. The lobster mac'n'cheese was tasty, with lots of pasta and not so much lobster. My husband had the little necks w/ chorizo and it was good, but not excellent. Fathoms is located in a lovely spot and is a happening place! Probably a good idea to make a reservation.
